Hall was finally healthy last year until the Florida game and was showing marked improvement up to that point. Crushing blow for him personally as he had been looking forward to that matchup being from the state of Florida.

Amaris Williams can give us potentially a 4th five star on the line at Harris' DE spot. On3's Rusty Mansell says Williams is targeting being ready by post season (December) on his comeback goal.

Williams is not coming back this year. The guy has an NFL future. He is not rushing his return to action. Especially when he can get a nice paycheck for merely rehabbing and building himself up. He will make sure that he is 100% rehabilitated, strong and ready for full contact before hitting the field again.

Under the new rules he still has 2 years of eligibility remaining. Makes little sense for him to rush back this season when he can be completely 100% ready next spring to set himself up for RD 1 in the NFL draft.

With Hall's injury history, anything UGA gets from him on the field this season should be considered a bonus.

As for Griffin, UGA is going to need more than 1 of the 10 5* players it has on D to step up to the level needed to compete for championships this season. Griffin will also need for the UGA coaches to turn him loose. Something UGA coaches don't normally do for defensive linemen in its scheme. By my count UGA had 8 (not counting freshmen) defensive linemen that are ready to be productive contributors in the rotation. If Griffin is as advertised, it would make sense to focus Griffin's reps in pass rush situations.

Does anyone know if Amaris has 3 more years to complete 2 years of playing? It appears to me that he played 2 years at Auburn without a redshirt. If that’s the case I think he could redshirt this year even if he returns for 3-4 games in the playoffs. That may still allow him to play 2 seasons past this upcoming one if he doesn’t go to the NFL. Is that correct? Go Dawgs!!!

With Walker, Big JD, and J.Carter you're talking about three top15 picks in the NFL Draft. I'm sorry, but neither Hall nor JJA have shown that type of production nor effectiveness yet, and not even really close. I think Sone could be a future first round talent, but he's still developing and needs reps. In terms of top15 talents, I think Griffin is the lone wolf. Guys like Q.Johnson and G.Harris I think are more second to third round types. Although, I will say I do really like Johnson's growth and rapid development. He is on a significantly upward trajectory, and could end up making me look very dumb for saying he's potentially a 2nd-3rd round type.

I think JJA has all the talent in the world, but I think he's been playing out of position thus far. I don't think he belongs on the Edge of the DL, and I think a move inside could really help him unlock his potential. That is especially if we are talking about JJA rushing the passer from the interior.

Anything the Dawgs get from Hall is a bonus. He's an exfellent run defender, but I legitimately have no idea what to expect from him if he's healthy. He could really help collapse the pocket, and Hall and Griffin could form a very solid duo.

Overall, I do not think it is fair to compare any DLs to the one UGA had during that title run. I don't think you will ever see another DL like that one in college football with all the parity now. Although, with that being said, I do think Georgia will have a very good DL this year. X.McLeod, Ogboko, N.Johnson, V.Sone, I.Gibson, C.Linton, and Ikinnagbon will all combine to add some excellent depth, so UGA will be able keep their guys fresh and come at teams in waves. That is especially when you factor in Z.Walker and C.Cole with how Kirby and Schu like to blitz their LBs. With those two, Griffin, KJ, R.Wilson, and E.Robinson I think this UGA defense could ultimately end up with at least a handful of top40 draft picks. As an entire defense, I think they could be absolutely dynamic and very stingy in their own right, but from solely a DL perspective it just isn't fair to make that original comparison.

This is a championship level DLine even without Elijah. Sleep on McLeod, Nasir and Ogboko and you are going to pay the price. With a healthy foot JJA should be a terror and Harris is an AA this year.

feels like you’re discounting Elijah in your statement. He’s better than everyone you went on to mention.

McLeod has been hot and cold. Nasir, Ogboko, and JJA have underwhelmed so far. Would love if any of those guys stepped up, but I need to see it.

Gabe was great last year, but he needs to stay healthy.

Willing to be proven wrong, but you’re talking up guys who had big recruiting profiles without much to show for it so far in the college game.

This is standard 2nd and 3rd year improvements. Not talking up, just have seen it before so many times with Kirby. These guys are going to do what the others did before and people are going to be put on notice. Nasir was a top 100 guy, JJA was a top 50 guy, It's not a matter of being proven wrong either, it's exciting and great for all of us Dawg fans.

Kirby brings these guys in and sometime between year 2 and year 3 the light goes on and they become dominant. Occassionally you get an Elijah or KJ in year 1.
