Georgia football ranks 17th in recruiting with two 5-star recruits in the 2027 class, but a lesson could be learned from Kirby Smart's No. 1-ranked signing class from 2018.

James Cook was a 5 star and top 25 guy as I recall for Rivals. 247Sports had him a high 4 star but both had him well within the top 50 nationally
@RomeDawg288 Yes, we used the 247Sports Composite for the purposes of this article, as it is commonly considered a standard with its mix of the different services' ratings.
@MikeGriffith Superb article with some very interesting info. Job well done! I do however, think that with the NIL this year moving to muti-year contracts, that flips and late year commits are no longer in the new mix. 90% of recruiting will be done by the end of July. The portal is going to be the ace in the hole for Kirby, and only depending on the talent available and cost. Even 4 stars now are commanding outrageous high numbers. Happy 4th!!
Whatever happened to “Free Luke Ford”?
nothing
I am proud of the fact that Kirby and UGA are not bent on throwing millions at HS athletes hoping on the come that they will live up to the stars they enjoy. I think Kirby has successfully adjusted and sees value in getting talented players who value UGA in addition to NIL and will have the loyalty to graduate after completing their playing days in college. Let the 5-star darlings richochet around in the TP every year as mercenaries. Develop Georgia and southern talent where players are near their families and loyal to their homes. Perhaps a 3-4 star that can play four years at UGA is better than the 5-star prima donna with an attitude who goes pro after 2-3 years. if there is a gaping hole at a position for a year, then fill it in from the portal. That's a great strategy for the future that I believe KS has developed by being the student of the game and analyzing trends by winning programs…
Dude, you got it all wrong.
Ranked #17 for 2027, followed by a #10+ for 2028 will lead to bad outcomes. Ask Dabo:
Is this what we want? Expect?
