I’m not sure how far back they rated these games, but easily one of the biggest games in my lifetime was the 1965 UGA vs Bama game. UGA won 18-17 in the waning minutes against the defending national champions by scoring on the flea flicker and then going for a 2 point conversion to avoid a tie. It was the beginning of Dooley’s 2nd season and Bama was quarterbacked by Steve Sloan and Kenny Stabler. I think that Bama team went on to repeat as national champs. That was easily one of the greatest games, but maybe too far back to be included in the ESPN survey. Of course, not many voters are old as I am so it’s for them “ancient history”, but WOW….it was a classic!!! GO Dawgs!!!

Are you saying I’m older than dirt?!?! The great part of that game is all the old Bama fans are haunted by our TD pass because they think our receiver’s knee was down before he tossed the ball to our running back. Too funny they have never gotten over it and ALL Dawg fans saw it clearly…..and his knee was easily 4 feet off the ground 😉

I totally agree…..most of the voters are under 80 years old so they never experienced the craziness with older games. I agree with the 6 games mentioned by ESPN, but they didn’t mention many games prior to 1980. Arguably one of the most exciting times in BullDawg lore was 2 weeks after the Bama upset I mentioned below. Our undefeated Dawgs faced the #1 Michigan team in front of 100,000+ crazy fans in Ann Arbor. We kicked 5 field goals and pulled off another insane 15-7 win over another top rated team. Folks in Athens were going totally berserk and Dooley’s Dawgs became an item for the first time in a few decades. Go Dawgs!!!
I read this article on ESPN and it is a very fine read. I personally would've added two more UGA games to the list—one being the 1959 game at Sanford stadium where Sir Francis beat Auburn in the last few seconds with a fourth down TD pass to Bill Herron, and probably the 8 OT game with Tech.
The GT OT game a couple years ago was freakin' awesome!
