ATHENS — Mike Bobo and Glenn Schumann know their way around the Georgia sideline.

“I look at the production he’s had, the success he had, the team success where he doesn’t worry about, he worries about winning football games, and the way he coaches our players day-to-day is unmatched in this country,” Smart said of Bobo at SEC Media Days.
I don't doubt that he is very effective in coaching players day-to-day and doing an impressive job of developing players and supporting/leading the position coaches in their duties. I believe there are statistical results that back up CKS's evaluation in those categories and probably a few others. I'm not questioning CKS and his ability to evaluate those who make up his staff. However, the category that concerns most Dawg fans and gets the most attention from the college football world is play calling. This is the area where his work is most visible to those of us who are not inside the UGA Practice Facility.
Will he be an exceptional play-caller in 2026? Can he put GS and his offense in the best possible position to possess the ball for sustained periods of time and tactfully move the ball down the field? Can he recognize and exploit an apparent weakness in the opposing defense the instant it materializes? Can he improve the TD: FG ratio from inside the red zone (I think they improved this stat in 20205)?

Bobo takes the hit when the Dawgs struggle and especially when they lose, but nobody talks about the play calling against Tennessee, Alabama in The SEC Championship Game or Ole Miss or Texas in Athens. And if Talyn Taylor makes that catch against Alabama, and Gaston and Glover don’t miss their blocking assignments nobody is complaining about the Alabama game in Athens. It’s much more about execution by the players than play calling by Bobo or any coach. We know that KS is extremely satisfied with Bobo’s play calling that’s why he’s there and getting paid so much.
I find it ironic how all the negativity has been heaped on Bobo because of UGAs recent CFP shortfall vs OM when in fact it was the other side of the ball that has cost us. There’s a reason Schumann wasn’t poached for a HC position yet. Time to prove he has the Lanning it factor this year as his defense is loaded. No more excuses Glenn. Crank up the junkyard dawgs
A couple of thoughts. Is Schumann and Bobo's homesteading at UGA good or bad? I say bad. In the military, they rotate leaders every two to four years for good reasons. Longevity breeds complacency and often worse. our coordinators really have no fear of getting fired whatsoever. They are in the friends and family program. Schumann remains because nobody will offer him a head coaching job. Bobo left once for a head coaching job and ultimately returned four jobs later with his tail between his feet. Other thought is QBs. How is it that we really do not give our backup quarterbacks any playing time once we have a comfortable lead? That is not prudent. if Stockton gets injured, and his stule makes this more likely than not, then we have zero experienced backup QBs to. lead the offense. It would be a disaster from my view, but perhaps I would be pleasantly surprised. Regardless, it is just prudent to give your Number 2 QB meaningful snaps in all games where we can feel confidently that we will win the game. It also minimizes risks of injury to Stockton. If Bobo is the OC, then isn't he responsible for making sure we have a QB on the bench with enough experience to pick up where Stockton left off? Yes, he is. Why doesn't he do this? This seems to be a contant more or less across Smart's entire tenure as the head coach. Let's do better on this.

News flash. the OC is responsible for training and conditioning to ensure execution. Bobo never gets enough blame to get fired by Smart. He gets kudos however, more often than deserved. Just last year he was pushed as a Broyles award winner. Until toward the end of the season that is…. Bobo is responsible for our offensive scores. The buck stops with Bobo and ultimately Smart himself. Blaming the players is a diversion.
If the Dawgs can continue to improve the run game to over 200 a game it will open up Bobo's play action calls. I think the Reddell kid is going to be a big, fast outlet for Gunner, something UGA has not had since Bowers left. There are many reports about Prothro at the slot, but I think Reddell plays an important role.
I’m a big fan of coach Bobo , always been interesting reading genius comments from Ga experts. I suspect Coach Smart might just know a bit more about his coordinators than we do. I trust him. We’re living in terrific Dawg days.

@Roman13 - Obviously not necessary to be a genius to predict the next play to be called as many of us are able to do exactly that several times a game. Pretty sure opposing DCs are better at that than most of us. On the other hand, as I’ve stated numerous times, Bobo’s play calling is brilliant at times. His weakness, which may actually be the result of Kirby’s decisions, is going too conservative when we get a lead. IMO, in today’s game you must keep the pedal to the metal most of the time. Going conservative as early as the second quarter is not a good idea. That’s what we did in the playoff game against Ole Miss. Of course, our D collapsing in the fourth quarter made matters worse.
TThis Isn't the military. It's just football and to have coaches stay is good for recruiting.

Allot of good comments and questions from my fellow Dawgs fans here. All of them have merit and are reasonable even if it’s opposing lines of thought.
What I’m about to say will sound crazy and you can chalk that to me 🤪 !! But I’m wondering will CMB be able to utilize All the talent he might well have in the passing game ? For me right now in the moment it looks like the TEs will be the meat of our pass attack. But there’s allot of potential in the WRs room as well. Potential that could suddenly come alive ! But and If that happens it’d be bad to put the highly talented TEs back to Just being Just blockers.
I queasy what I’m trying to grind out is there Allot of mouths to be fed in the passing game. WRs, TEs, and hopefully Dwight Phillips in particular and maybe some Nate Frazier with passes to them as well. Actually it’s a Good problem to have !
If the RBs can crank up their game it’ll open the passing game and vice versa. Of course allot hinging on the O Line and GS. Until he shows me This year a reason not to I’m gonna trust CMB. Same goes for Coach Schumann. Last year good, bad, or in between is in the books. So I’m gonna start off the new season Believing in the whole program. Not gonna do any preemptive bashing or complaining.
It’s gonna take getting deeper into the schedule to get a good and realistic view of what these Dawgs are all about. Though I certainly wouldn’t sleep walk through Ark. at their house, I think vs OK will be where we as fans start getting a feel about what these Dawgs can be. So right now I’m hyped on Em and ready to see them put the Dawg bite on some people ! Go Dawgs !
