Stetson Bennett IV will get the start in the L.A. Rams preseason opener on Saturday, but the news wasn't as good for Carson Beck, whose a surprise scratch for Arizona.

No longer the "kid" from Blackshear who lead the The Dawgs to two National Championships…But the "man" who will lead The Rams to the playoffs!
Imo....Bennett "Starting", says more about where Simpson is.…than Bennett. We....McVay "knows" Bennett can run the offense. He doesn't "need" to see him play.
On the other hand....Simpson is a relatively unknown commodity, with zero experience running the Ram's offense. He "needs" the work and the "Start". But....he must not be ready, else....that's what would happen.
Which kinda forces McVay to put Stafford's backup (Bennett) at risk. Simpson....imo....has a long way to go, to catch up with Bennett. Or, Beck...for that matter. Lol
IMHO....Right now....McVay just needs a Competent Offense Operator (QB) to give the other 10 players some quality reps. An incompetent quarterback can stunt the growth that should take place in Preseason Camp.
Unlike during the Season, when you employ your #1 guy. In the preseason games....most NFL Teams look from the bottom, up for the least expensive, most competent quarterback to " run the offense" and nothing more. And, right now, in LA....that's Bennett, for more than one reason...imo.
Bennett will get a few Starts, this year. I believe McVay is gonna use kid gloves with Stafford, and keep him "out" occasionally....due to that sensitive back issue. Before the end of the year....Stafford and Bennett will possibly, provide the League's first...and best....1-2 punch, quarterback team. Brilliant!

Bennett is in the best possible position, a backup quarterback can be in, in the NFL.
With the Rams' coaching & patience;....the benefit of a salty team he's already been working with for a couple of Seasons;...and the solid infrastructure that surround him....no reason he can't pick up where Stafford leaves off, should that be necessary. SB might not be as savvy.…but, he's definitely as talented and hungry. Just sayin'....Lol
Let me go ahead and pop the bubble for ya....Bennett and the rest of the Rams will be a little sloppy Saturday. The most dangerous time for ANY quarterback...is Preseason Game 1....imo.
In fact.…that might be, why Simpson isn't "starting". They don't don't want to risk the "25 million dollar statue"....that IS Simpson...to possible injury, before the season even starts. At least Bennett has the wheels and wherewithal to escape a heavy rush....and, the experience, not to make a bad play worse.
How about a 100+ QB rating on Saturday Stetson—with no interceptions!! You can do it.

Really hope Stetson gets his chance as the back-up to Stafford. He definitely has more experience with the Rams offense than Simpson. Stetson needs to cement his place on the team during the preseason.
it’s gonna be a tough decision bc it’s not going to be only about who plays best. Rams invested a first round pick on Simpson and probably aren’t going to want him to sit lower than third. Stetson will have to be undeniable in whatever opportunities he gets.

Let me break it down for you. Some people in that building have a lot invested in Ty Simpson. Way more than Stetson Bennett. They just used a first round pick on him. Remind me what round they drafted Stetson? They are paying guaranteed money to Simpson and can cut Stetson. There’s more to the NFL than just playing. Optics, salaries, perceptions. It all matters.
There’s certainly a world where Stetson is head and shoulders above Ty Simpson and will win the backup job. Considering where Simpson was drafted, the Rams front office will want him to be the main backup. If the play on the field is even, I can assure you Simpson will get it. If Stetson is a lot better, then Stetson will get it.
You’re entitled to your own reality. We will get to see them both play football this afternoon and we can have more information.

Tell you the truth....I'm a little worried that Bennett's gonna get injured today. Trying to do too much, to impress. I hope he just plays it conservative vs the Chiefs.

You ever read the book supposedly about Don Meredith and Lance Rentzle when they were with the Cowboys?....the movie was "North Dallas Forty". But, the book went into the politics & money a lot deeper than the movie. I think Meredith wrote the book using a Ghost Name, or something like that....lot of speculation on origin.
The politics go wayyy back. Lol. I think this is a struggle between the front office and McVay over direction. I just think....McVay is gonna win. That's all there is, to it.
