L.A. Rams coach Sean McVay gave a glowing report on Ty Simpson's progress and recent practice this week and has yet to commit on a QB rotation for Rams' next preseason game.

Funny how if you look back at Stetsons performance in the same game last year, his numbers were even better than Simpsons.
Simpson was playing against lower level talent fighting to make a team. Has he been evaluated at all vs any good players? I think they’ll get rid of Bennett so I hope he finds a good team. The falcons aren’t smart enough to try to get him.
Unless he pulls some kind of miracle this week, it doesn't look that good. We all know he’s done it before. The coach didn't mention his name, unless I missed it, so there's that. Throw in his recent performance v Dallas and without said miracle, the bright lights of Blackshear may be calling.
Unpopular opinion but I’m about tired of reading about Bennett’s struggles to remain a backup quarterback in the NFL. I don’t recall any other University of Georgia QB getting anywhere near this much “ink” about just plain not being good enough at the pro level. College is not the same as pro. In college, I’d take Aaron Murray over Bennett every day of the week but his skill couldn’t catch on in the pros. At the time, David Greene won more than anyone but couldn’t hang on. Jake Fromm was really good in college but struggled when he got his shot. I know the flames and downs are coming but seriously, he’s just not impressing as a pro. If he was, we’d never see another one of these articles.
@CDDawgs I agree, last fall he was awesome and I think the Rams felt good about him starting if Stafford wasn't ready. He's had another good offseason, but management drafted Simpson in the first round — do they feel obligated to play him since they are paying him more than Stet?
@BEACHDAWG We know McVay really likes him and the Rams stuck with him after a tough start with his first year out of football. My thinking is that, even if the Rams were to move Simpson ahead of him — and I'm not sure they are ready to do that this season — another team would go after Stetson.
@87dawg From my experience players like the 2021-22 Bulldogs who won national championships remain etched in the minds of many fans, and many of those same fans like to follow their careers. Now, in the case of Stetson, he hasn't taken any NFL regular-season snaps, and there's some question as to whether he will make the team. But if you recall, the summer before the 2021 season Stetson was actually 4th string…. and he ended up starting and leading a team to the title. It's an irresistible storyline to wonder if he might do it again but at the NFL level. It's hard to count out a guy like Stetson Bennett — I can vouch for that!
Stetson didn't have a chance to show anything in that game—Simpson took all the snaps.
@lucydog Agree, but it didn't sound like a great innersquad scrimmage against the Cowboys last week and McVay didn't mention him when discussing Tuesday practice. It bears watching, the NFL is so fluid.
you would take Aaron Murray over Stetson Bennett? Wild take man…
Thank you for responding. I do enjoy your articles and perspective. They could be, purposely, putting more pressure Simpson. Stetson will always be one of "Them Dawgs!" The Blackshear comment was meant to imply that he might retire, not be a total bust ine the league.
Have a great day and keep up the good work!
Been watching a ton of UGA games while anticipating September 5th. By a large margin, the Stetson years are the most entertaining and successful. We had the best receiving group. So good and so deep. We had a defense that was two deep at every position. Full of full grown men with bad intentions. Bruising and fleet backs that all ran with purpose. Stetson. What he put on tape is truly, spectacular. Pinpoint throws. Improbable scrambles, you almost can't get tired of his skills and game management. The now is quite different for him. I hope he holds the memories as precious as we fans, and wish him success in the future.
I love Stetson Bennett as a player. My favorite Dawg QB. (Murry shouldn't even be mentioned in the same paragraph). Stetson can really toss the ball, and he's fast as most DB's. His desire outweighs everyone on the field at any given moment. All that being said, he throws interceptions. In bunches. The NFL has the best of the best, and they will make you pay. The rams kept him because he can make it happen when you need it. But long term, they want a guy who won't throw interceptions. I was hoping he would have put some of that behind him, but the scrimmage this month where he threw two interceptions really, really hurt him. I would be surprised if this year isn't the end of the line. I hope I'm wrong. Would love to see him in just one NFL game.
Having watched both while being aware of surrounding personnel (not to mention the actual numbers and records), yes, I would.
He threw that one pass short of the end zone against alabama (receiver route issue?) and, had it crossed the goal (yeah, I know, if only), we would have won the NC that year.
i don’t know Aaron always seemed to save his best games for Vandy and Kentucky
