ATHENS — For all the chatter about the Georgia wide receiver position this month, Kirby Smart notes that success for that group can’t be self-made

"…..provided the offensive line holds up and the wide receivers get open."
I'm looking forward to seeing significant improvement in the OL production as they are a year older and now operating under the watchful eye of a former NFL coach. If they can perform at a high level, Gunner can optimize the improvement that he has worked so hard to achieve. As we have been reminded several times by some very football-savvy commenters on this site, GS and company are going against one of the very best defenses in college football every day. The challenge they face in every Fall Camp practice is much tougher than any on the schedule this season. Controlling the LOS on both sides of the ball is paramount to success, and these guys have what it takes to be dominant.
GO DAWGS!
Gunner and the receivers are fighting to complete passes against what might be the best secondary in the nation. Very few teams in contention this season are going to be that strong in the secondary. I am hearing that Bama has a strong secondary, but is weak on the DL. Run on them and pass when it is there and nessessary. UGA always needs a strong run game for the play action to open up. The odds for continued improvement in the run are pretty good if the hearsay about the improved play on the OL is true.
"But few, if any, would at this point slot him over Trinidad Chambliss of Ole Miss and Arch Manning of Texas."_____DN
Please....will somebody tell me...What has Manning or Texas done, to rate that kind of respect?
Manning isn't even the 3rd best quarterback in the SEC. And, probably isn't the best quarterback on The Longhorns. Lol
Man.…imo....UGA dodged a bullet by missing out on the Manning Sweepstakes. Can you imagine the energy Kirby and Bobo would have to expend in deflecting the faulty expectations surrounding Archie's Garndson?.
If Sark benched him....the Corporate Media would eat him alive. They've got a lot of bank behind the Manning Clan. Just sayin'.
“Georgia wants to be more aggressive in terms of pushing the ball downfield this season. That starts with Stockton,‘
Maybe, but, imo, it starts with Coach Bobo and the plays he calls.
IMO…....Like I said earlier in the month....I wouldn't look too closely at "team efficacy" till about 10 days before the first game. (imo)
The focus right now, is on individual improvement, technique and physical conditioning (Pads Shape). Next week, I would expect them to start working on assignment discipline and working as a team.
But....the HEAT! Dang. How do the QB's even hold on to that sweat slicked ball to throw it. Lol....I doubt they have many one-handed catches in this weather.
Go Dawgs! Bulldogs are meant for this.…get nasty!
#1 Please no significant preseason injuries #2 O Line live up to the hype #3 USE THE TEs much more in the pass game !! Combined with our Run game this will open things up more for the WRs.
Just my opinion but I don’t think those WRs are gonna Stay in a rut. There are several good players in that room. They Will sooner rather than later break out !
It’s great to hear that GS has improved. I hoped he would and thought that he would he’s to much of a competitor to just lay down and sleep. Last year was his first true year at starter so it’d be natural for him to progress.
Now I Really hope Pugs will step up his play. But and if he can’t for some reason may the best next man up get going really good. One injury away from needing a backup QB to step in and get the job done.
Lastly as has been said already by many here. I think the reason why the Offense isn’t a shining star is because they are practicing against an Elite defense ! Iron sharpens iron ! Go Dawgs !!
Bobo is good enough to get us to 3 straight SECCGs, winning the last 2, one with the backup QB. Not too shabby…
Manning isn't a top tier QB - I agree. They shouldn't have played him as a freshman against UGA - ruined his career. Those eyeballs have been wide ever since.
And the execution of said play by the O-line, QB and WRs
show don’t tell
Exactly! I see a lot of "tellin'" with Manning....and, a lot of "showin'" with Stockton....Lol. Media coverage doesn't reflect reality wrt skill players....imo.
The first thing I would look at, when comparing supposedly "equal quarterbacks".....ìs supporting personnel (OL, RB's, WR's, ST...etc.).
The very next thing and one of the most important...imo...is Schedule. And, I wouldn't trade UGA's for anybody's....Especially, Texas.
Manning is gonna have to face an onslaught of epic proportions....Starting with their game against OSU. Lol
Stockton has a clear runway compared to Manning...and probably the Chambliss. Ole Miss's schedule looks like murderers row compared to the Dawgs.
I'm assuming all 3 teams to be equal with a comparable supporting cast for the QB. I have to give UGA the edge there, due to experienced depth at pretty much...all positions. Lol
IMO....Stockton has far more to work with this year....than, either Manning or Chambliss. How in Heavens name do "The Experts" have Stockton ranked below those 2?.
They're good....but, not THAT good. If either one of those guys can deliver a better "Team" to the CFP....I'll bow my head in reverence to ESPN. Lol
Go Dawgs!!!
I was referring to people talking about how Gunner has improved. I’m not quite sure what Arch has to do with this conversation at all
@BigDawg61 you have to be the most delusional homer I have ever come across. Seriously, what "crop" are you raising down on that farm is S GA?
GS "improved immensely". I hope so. Hate to think that '25 was his ceiling. We will see. It will be interesting to watch how much he has improved. Unwiring that kid will be the hardest think. He needs to stay in the pocket, buy time, and become a QB and not a RB that can throw.
"Stockton has more to work with". SMH. Have you even looked at what TX brings back or portal'd in this off season? Needless to say TX has as much talent (if not more) in Austin at RB and OL and clearly more at WR. Or maybe you are banking on OC CMB being a better play caller or utilizer of talent than Sark? Good luck with that.
If you are talking defense TX's D is loaded. Probably the equal of UGA's. Did you forget about Justus Terry, Tyler Atkinson, Collin Simmons, Watson, Kanu, etc. And Muschamp at DC. Seems UGA has lost a little on D with the loss of Muschamp.
As for Manning his passing yards and passing TD's surpassed GS's in '25. He also had as many rushing TD's as GS in '25. He completion % was less than GS's but Manning throws the ball more than 5 yards downfield. GS did not in '25. Manning is bigger and stronger. And about a 0.5 seconds faster over 40 yards. 6'5" 235 lb and runs like a deer.
Even more so than UGA, TX's offense is primed to explode in '26. Many prognosticators are calling this TX's year.
I was responding to you, with the about paragraph....[contained in the article, these posts are addressing].....in mind. Been seein' a lot of absurd declarations like that.
Just balancing the scales a little bit.. Lol
Lolol....delusional? I wish you knew half as much as you think you do. It would make these little debates, much more interesting and challenging.
I've been plenty critical of the Dawgs and their inconsistent coaching.…going back to when Erk Russell departed for GaSo. And, predating Social Medi.
However....2 things inspired me to join this DawgNation thing....Boredom of Retirement & The "Current" UGA Bulldog Coaching Staff.
I know what a Group of committed individuals can do when everybody pulls in the same direction as " Team", with same focus & intensity.
That's what I saw, that inspires me to write. Call it whatever you like...Homer, Delusional....whatever. I AIN'T WRONG, though. Lol
Maybe you don't get it, yet....idk. Not judging....but, I'm thinking YOU may be projecting just a little bit. Lol. It's obvious, you and I don't see eye-to-eye wrt QB's and how Kirby uses em. I'm still waiting for you to be right about one. Lol
Recommendation....Stop focusing so much on stats and raw talent at the DIV1 CFB Level. It's irrelevant wrt Stockton & Manning's stage of development....cause, they have been trained to use that talent already.
In other words....what "you see" is what you get. That doesn't include, what's between the ears. Any physical improvements at this stage are gonna be minor tweaks. The "big growth" has already hapoened.
However,....mentally....Stockton is stronger than Manning and probably Chambliss. Imo....that gives him an edge. And, now he has a loaded backfield and receiving corps along with a solid offensive line (with options).....that has been sporadic and inconsistent or missing entirely, since '23.
I call what happened to UGA over the last 2_seasons....an act-of-God. Cause, it took a Pandemic and NCAA Collapse to slow Kirby down.
But....this year, the Kirby Dawgs back, baby!!!
LoLol.....we will soon find out....which of us is delusional. And, I can't wait. You'll know I was right....when you hear a snapping sound behind you and a pain in your rear.
