We've got some work to do on both sides of the LOS, but I was happy to see our running game crank out the yards. We have got to protect Gunner better going forward. Too many pressures got to him.
Oklahoma still can't figure out their offense. They managed a measly 61 yards of rushing against the LoBos. Mateer looked better than last week, and the Venebles defense appears pretty good as you'd expect from him. I hope the Dawgs will dismantle the Sooners in Sanford.
If you move the needle just a little bit, you could put Silverfield in the "poor poor pitiful me" category. I think he stays just outside of that label, but you just don't see really, really great coaches with anything near that mindset.

What a delusional person. Our DBs gave up too many long pass plays. Our O line can’t pass protect. Needed luck to score a TD with two PI calls due to Bobo trying to get cute on 1st and goal at the two. Gotta play more crisp in the rest of the games. The ok qb threw two interceptions yesterday. They shouldn’t be able to score much at all vs Georgia, but our offense will need to step it up against the ok defense next week. Go Dawgs!
Great comments Montana !! I’ll probably get blasted to pieces but that’s OK heard it all before. I did my level best to keep an eye open for all the “ wide open receivers” that Gunner has supposedly missed. I saw One opportunity Maybe. Other than that when he ran with the ball it was because the receivers were Covered.
His legs Are a weapon and shouldn’t be so readily dismissed by Some Dawgs fans. And as you rightly pointed out GS was sacked 3 times. On Two of those three times he was staying in the pocket scanning the field trying to find an open guy. The O Line failed Not Gunner. Everyone has an opinion, I have mine. At This point in time Gunner looks improved to me. Course the three games played thus far have been verses inferior opponents. And I guess to Some the yards GS gets with his legs don’t count.
I could understand if GS were struggling or just so-so in these first games. But the fact is he’s been Very efficient with much stress on Very. Of Course he needs to continue working to improve. The whole team does. Even the coaches. But I just don’t get the “ if Gunner doesn’t improve Allot we’re doomed” narrative. He actually did really well last year. And Time will tell the story but early on he looks to me that he Has improved some. Nice crisp passes. Throwing over the middle more. Doesn’t just tuck the ball and run but stays in the pocket searching for targets.
Just to make absolutely sure you know. My comments are not About you they are To you !! In other words I’m crying on you. Because you tend to be fair minded. Even the Ark. HC said “ Gunner Stockton Crushed us” !! Now GS has got to Continue that against much better competition. I get that. But For Now the criticism of his play should be minimal. I’m gonna try even harder to look for the “wide open receivers” he misses Allot in the vs. OU game.

@navydawg…I know you have a love for Gunner, and I respect that. I think he is still evolving, but I haven't seen anything yet from him against decent competition this season. Oklahoma is another step up from the Hogs in the competition, and then Bama should be another step…or two…up from that. I think Gunner still misses open receivers and bails on the pocket too early. It doesn't help his case if the OL can't hold blocks and protect him. Just being honest, I see Gunner as more of a solid game manager than some stud QB with a fantastic, accurate arm that is going to rip it up downfield. I keep hoping for that, but it just hasn't happened yet. I wish he could be a little of both. I think he is a Top 5 QB in the SEC, but I would definitely put Chambliss and even redshirt Keelon Russell ahead of him right now. Keelon seems to see the field better than Gunner, and his feet are a major weapon just like Gunner, but I think even more so. Gunner would probably be ranked #3 or #4 in the SEC right now. He may certainly climb up the rankings in my book, and I think he can be brilliant at times…kinda like Arch Manning who also struggles a bit with pressure and seeing the field. But both Gunner & Arch know how to improvise if the protection breaks down.
@navydawg….Georgia has always seem to gravitate towards game manager QBs than stud passers that are very dangerous and accurate with their arm. Stetson was a great game manager, and one of the best improvisors that I've ever seen. I mean, you can certainly win a Natty with a game manager, as long as the other pieces around you are even better. And that's what we had in 2021 (defense) and 2022 (offense & defense).
@MontanaDawg I appreciate your honesty. And even more so your civility. You said you haven’t seen anything Yet that moves Gunner Up in your estimation. OK. I don’t particularly agree with that. But you didn’t say he moved Down in your estimation either. So I suppose you see him as About The Same as last year up to this point. And that’s where I disagree with you.
I’m trying to keep in mind the level of competition he’s faced. And you certainly have a right to cite that to. But so far in three games he hasn’t bailed nearly as much out of the pocket and ran. I See him scanning the field. And he’s thrown more passes over the middle this year. My eyes are getting old but I’ve only seen a couple of times spread across three games where their Might have been an open receiver he missed.
Plus people give Chambliss and other QBs praise when they do good things with their legs. But Gunner doesn’t get that same praise very often even from his own fans for the Many first downs he picks up with his feet !! I respect and appreciate your opinions.
And look I could be Bad wrong as the season goes on and the competition gets tougher. If Gunner starts blowing up I’ll eat it, because the Team always comes first !! @MontanaDawg Last year’s playoff game reviewed. Many Dawgs fans ( not saying you) immediately blame Gunner for the loss. But let’s take a closer look. I believe it was a Team loss. First 34 points by the Dawgs should’ve been enough to win. Gunner was Sacked three times ! Chambliss not sacked at all.
So wouldn’t it be fair to put some of the blame on the Dawgs OLine and Defense ? Woodring was 2 of 3 FGs. The Ole Miss kicker was 3 of 3 with two kicks being over 50 yds. One for 55 yds. The other for 57 yds. Ole Miss lost their first encounter with the Dawgs and won by only 5 points in the second encounter being the playoffs. Dawgs lost only two games last year with Gunner as starter.
All I’m saying is Gunner is a Very solid QB. Especially when due credit is given for his feet. You said he’s a Game Manager QB. If that’s the case I’d have to say he’s an Amplified Game Manager !!
Now like I said in my first response to you, I might have to eat what I said if Gunner blows up and can’t get the job done. If that happens I’ll eat it !! I Do love Gunner but I’m a Team man first !!
