ATHENS — The X receiver position in the Georgia offense is usually reserved for the biggest, most physical of the pass catchers in the Georgia offense.

I’m not good at keeping up with the names of the receiver positions, so this question might not be for the x position, but what happened to the Protho TE that was going to be used as a WR? I don’t remember hearing anything about him the first 5 games. Go Dawgs!
@David1 - Same question David. Prothro looked good in G-Day and scrimmages. Wiley has had difficulty catching the ball, sort of a fundamental requirement for a receiver. I’m assuming that’s why he hasn’t played much. Or it could be his blocking. He’s fast though.
I'm guessing its blocking for Prothro as welll….seems to have all the tools….should be a breakout soon!
Go Dawgs!
Throw the ball Landon H more. He can catch and run
The game could be based on the run game if the weather goes as predicted. It's very difficult to accurately throw a wet football. That gives the injured players another week to recover. No need to play them if the field conditions are really sloppy.
Yes, agree with @CHDawg54. Depending on the development and forward speed of the tropical system, there could be very heavy rain with squally conditions Saturday night in Tuscaloosa (would officials dare move the time up?). Ugh, in any case, the bad luck that UGA has with transfer X receivers is awful. I was worried Canion's injury could be worse than we suspected.
Highly doubt the game will be moved, but with the weather forecast, the Dawgs will need Frazier to be healthy and have a huge game.
Canion's injury probably is worse than "we" expected but I'm sure Kirby and company have known the severity from the get-go. I caught a glimpse of him on the sidelines during the Vandy game and I'm pretty sure he was on crutches, looking like he won't play for weeks. But I'm on record as being underwhelmed by Canion thus far so him not playing, from a statistical standpoint, is irrelevant. More concerned about Blackshear. I don't think he plays this week, but hope his injury isn't longterm as he's showed promise. Didn't know anything about the storm but usually when bad weather is predicted this far in advance of a game, it usually holds off or turns in a different direction. Time will tell. Go Dawgs!
he’s a freshman and he may have not repped that position this fall.
Next man up..
I would use a 3 TE and 4 TE package - huge mismatches everywhere…
Yeah Prothro hasn’t been used much at this point. He did catch a short TD pass in game one or was it two ? Cant remember. He’s a true freshman so he’s very raw at SEC level football. BUT he has the size and good hands to play the position. I wish they’d play him a couple of snaps at the best possible time to help build his confidence. He’s gonna be a real weapon next year if he stays injury free. But love to see him get some snaps against legit defenses This year to help his experience level. As has been said earlier Use those big TEs by committee !! Go Dawgs !!
Reddell, Williams, Prothro…
One of em might just be an all-world gamer toiling in outside zone-blocking hell🤷
UGA wr's vs AL db's is the biggest mismatch in this game. UGA will need a very imaginative game plan for the TE's and a huge game out of the TE's to win this game.
So far, Prothro when used at WR has been in the slot - where Sacovie & Talyn primarily play. He was lined up in the slot almost exclusively in the first game and scored his only TD from this lineup spot.
He has been practicing some at X ( wide spot directly on the line of scrimmage) but these reps have exclusively been spread in majority of competitive play [prior to backups] by 1. Canion 2. Blackshear 3. Will Taylor and 4. London Humphreys - who mostly plays Z on other side of field.
He also continues to practice some in TE roles but is well behind our 5 veterans in what we need there. Believe he is already getting a few reps here in backup time of games.
Look for Prothro's added production to the team to likely increase after our bye weeks offensively similarly to Dinkins & Zayden Walker last year on defense. Believe this still will be receiver over TE simply due to roster depth.
