Georgia football graded out well after 20-17 road win at Alabama on Saturday,

We left points on the table. Clean up the false starts, holding penalties, bad snaps, and backfield miscues and Dawgs win by 21.
Go Dawgs!
@khummel it looked like he (Bolden) missed a good chance to intercept that ball in the end zone. There was a few poor attempts at tackling by the secondary also (including Bolden). These guys are usually great tacklers and I imagine they will get that straightened out this week. These guys are incredibly good and were playing some of the best in college football, so each side got the better of the other throughout the game.
"…..it’s hard to mark him down too much for the one interception he threw on a pass that was deflected."
@MikeGriffith I agree that turnovers are never acceptable, but I think you can evaluate that interception as a good play executed by the defense rather than a poor play/decision executed by the QB. The guy that got his hand on the ball is huge and once that happens the results are just the good fortune of whoever happens to be in the right place at the right time.
The fact that Coleman-Williams, one of the very best FBS receivers nationwide IMHO, wasn't running rampant all over UGA says our secondary did a really, really good job... 👍
A win is a win, especially with the officials swallowing their whistle every time Russell had "time" to throw.
I agree that special teams have to be downgraded for a missed field goal and muffed punt, but when I saw White-Helton’s reaction after he thought he’d given the ball away I saw how much it meant to the team as a whole. White-Helton was devastated. It goes back to Chis Cole saying how they play for each other and not Individual success.
@DawgfromILM I didn't — he also missed an open receiver on a bootleg that would have been a big play and missed a snap that was high, but not handled, and there was a miscommunicatin on a handoff that led to a sack. Gunner played gritty and tough, but it wasn't his best game from a grade standpoint — but perfomance and poise was legendary
Griffith grades better than Connor. However, I’d give the special teams a B- because their mistakes didn’t cost Georgia the game. Blake Stewart should be one of the MVPs of the game for jumping on the muffed punt. Go Dawgs!
Down your two top running backs there were doubts here on Dawgnation about the backups. Not anymore. These two (Phillips Jr. and Walker) accounted for nearly two hundred yards with an average of 7.5 yards per carry.
Gunner (249 passing yards) with one rushing TD and another passing TD played extremely well.
The defense held Russell well below what passing numbers he had previously had. Only down side was allowing him to avoid some all but certain sacks and him scampering for some big gains.
Well executed game plan. Some points were left off the board due to mistakes. But Bobo and Schumann deserve some praise here.
The guy that got his hand on the ball is an ALL SEC safety. GS threw the ball right at him. He tipped it to himself.
Take the win and be grateful. There were plenty of times UGA did not get (make?) the breaks vs Alabama in the past.
Alabama has recruited HS as well as UGA has over the last 5 years and done more in the TP. Alabama does not look to be as talented (or deep) as they were under Saban. UGA has one of its more talented and experienced teams in a few years. The loss of UGA's top 3 TP acquisition is hurting the team. The key will be can GS bring his best in the big games. That and injuries. May be time for UGA to look at its training, nutrition and strength programs. Seems UGA goes through a rash of injuries every season. That is illogical considering how many players UGA uses in games. Duel practices with rep's wearing guys out?
Great game by our Dawgs. Special teams across the board were perhaps less than special. The Alabama punts were all mostly coming down inside our 20 so White-Helton had a dilemma but hope he improves with experience. Woodring is money and unfortunately you are not going to make every fg especially on a wet field. My main concern is Miller does not seem to have much touch on his punts, too often they fly into the end zone not giving our gunners even a chance to perhaps down the ball. This unfortunately has been apparently happening in pretty much every game so not sure this is gonna change. We had gotten so spoiled by Brett. So proud of the team. Go Dawgs!
@UGADad20 what makes you think I'm ungrateful for the win?
Gunner did great but don't forget that there was a 2nd pass that came really really close to being an INT. Against a solid Bama team though, he did quite well.
A missed kick is a missed kick but yeah that "maybe I'll grab that bouncing ball will defenders around on the 8" was a critically and fundamentally bad decision making... I blame coaching there as it should be drilled into you when to touch it and when not to.
Penalties were rough and could've been game changing. I'm not one to blame refs but when you rip off a guys helmet and not get called for a facemask then your competence gets questioned. Luckily not a lot of sloppy lack of focus penalties but when it takes away big plays and changes TDs into field goals, it's tough to still win.
Nothing. But eeking out a win like that was very lucky. Be thankful the luck fell in UGA's favor this time. It could have very easily gone the other way. SWH's muffed punt return, GS's almost 2nd INT, the interference non call that is interference 99 % of the time. Have to admit UGA got some low probability breaks.
Seems like you need to apply a severity adjustment factor to your grading. GS operated 61 plays. Given that the defense was UA and not Vandy, he had relatively few cockpit errors. I still give him an A.
