Gunner is a determined, tough runner but not very fast or elusive, not crazy about him leading the team in rushing attempts when our RB's are a much greater threat than him.
I agree about Gunner not being very elusive. But he’s pretty fast for a QB. Not Peanut Phillips fast of course. But pretty fast. Even Quirky Herbie and Bama Chris brought up about Gunner’s speed and his adding another element to the run game. But I get it. We need better passing from him. Still feel that the plays Bobo calls are detrimental to the pass game though.
I've been as critical of Bobo as anyway. But, he and the offense have had a pretty darn good year, so far. Yes, this game was a return to form for them, unfortunately. But, I'm hopeful that this game was an outlier which, if just looking at this season alone up to now, it was. Hard not to criticize Bobo, though, based on his history.
When a person is right their right. And you’re right ! Let’s hope the “good” Mike Bobo shows up vs Ole Miss. He can be brilliant at times. But if he ever gets fixated on something it’s like he thinks One More Time will do it ! He can’t let loose of something that’s not working.
But and again at times he calls masterful plays. Maybe his better version will show up. And I’m not ready to give up on Gunner either. We’ve seen him play Great football. UF stomped Ole Miss. And as I understand it they did it principally on the ground with Baugh. We have every bit as good with By Committee RBs starting with Dwight Phillips !! Go Dawgs !!
my goodness, we must have lost. Fire Bobo, or was it a few weeks ago we were firing th DC, while we’re at let’s fire th special teams coach. Take away Gunners nil money. Let’s fire th wide receivers who couldn’t hold on th ball. We’re only 7-1 let’s fire Kirby. Now everyone should be happy we got rid of all th deadwood.
I'm also of the belief (based on no actual evidence, by the way) that this was an intentional game plan by Kirby. He knew that, if we made Florida's offense one-dimensional, played good defense, and didn't turn the ball over, we'd win. Could we have gone deep & to the tight ends? Could we have made the 4th down late, getting a TD instead of kicking a field goal to make it a 3-score game? Yes to all of the above. But, do we maybe come up short/turn the ball over & lose again? Maybe. I'm also of the belief that we'll have to score & limit Chambliss' runs to beat Ole Miss in Oxford next week, and our game plan will reflect that. We'll give up some points, but we'll score some, too.
I've seen a lot comparing Kirby & Spurrier this week. One HUGE difference: Spurrier was into style points. Kirby isn't. Kirby is more risk averse, for sure. But, he's the best coach in college football of the best program in college football right now. As someone who lived through the Donnan & Goff year, I'll take it.
