“I mean, that’s football, right? Like, if you get sacks, then you get turnovers. Most fumbles occur on sacks,” Smart said. “We got pressure on the quarterback, we affected both quarterbacks. And anybody will tell you, if you can’t run the ball and they struggle to run it, it makes you one-dimensional. And then, you know, everybody gets to feast and rush the passer.”
Yea, we got to see sacks, fumbles, interceptions, and Jaden Baugh held to just 38 yards! I'm still smiling at what I saw from this defensive effort against the Gators. Most CFB fans are on the edge of their seats waiting to see their star QB throwing down field to a speedy WR. With a Kirby Smart Georgia Bulldog team, Dawg fans get crazy when the defense takes the field! I'm not surprised when UGA shuts down some other team's star running back, but I'm ready to see them take down Trinidad Chambliss and hang an "L" on the Old Mess Rebels!
GO DAWGS!
Nothing about the comically bad play calling? Hard to take this site seriously when it’s not willing to call a spade a spade. Our offense was a giant loser this week. It has gotten steadily worse throughout the season. We are on the same path we’ve been on the last three seasons: early playoff exit where we are all befuddled by how terrible the offense was in our last game of the season. It’s coming. Why do we insanely believe we will get a different result. It’s not even the fact that we run a screen every second or third play of every stinking game, it’s that they are not even well designed screens. They are so easy to guard and we rarely get more than two yards. We ran 4 on the first drive alone! This is a high school offense. I love these dawg players. They will once again get short-changed in December when it matters most. With an elite OC we’re deep in the playoffs most seasons and probably competing in the NC game. Unfortunately this season will be de ja vu all over again! We need this site to shine the light on what has been holding this program back over the last four seasons.
Kudos to Chris Cole for the scoop and score, but the REAL hero on the play is Q.
Winner, Glenn Schumann. He worked harder for a better game plan. I still think it would be wise to bring in a co defensive coordinator. As was the case with the O Line coach, adding more brainpower can only help.
Loser - None - Anytime you beat Florida, it's a good year.
Meh - Regardless of Coach Smarts comments, he needs another return man. That ball can't get loose in that area.
Gunner needs to accept that making a mistake isn't the end of the world. Yes, Auburn was bad, but he did put us in a position to win. If the defense played like we played at Florida, and the kicker doesn't miss, we win at Auburn. Gunner is tough as nails, but the mental side is bothering him. He's got to trust himself. The coaching staff needs to help him trust himself. Simplify passing or just tuck it and run. I think they did it with Stetson at one point.
it wasn’t about play calling. Clearly the game plan was to keep the offense low risk and run the football. That’s on Smart not Bobo. And it worked. Smart obviously thought Dawgs could control the line of scrimmage on offense and defense.
The gritty, smoothering defensive performance, which used to be a trademark of the Dawgs for years, was what we used to see most of the time. Cole, Bolden, several others were standouts Saturday. Maybe they just needed a BYE week! Hope this kind of performance continues.
And Ohio State didn't lose because of Fahey. Their entire supporting cast failed around him in every facet of the game. Having Sayin in there wouldn't have made much of a difference.
So here's the "Kirby Deal" when The Dawgs are winning by kicking serious arrrrse on D, advance the ball/score by rushing keeping your O plain vanilla cause "style point winners" always invite HUMILITY….plus you win the time of possession stat denying your opponent scoring ops, easier to limit penalties and pressures opponent to commit penalties, and provided you have a stable of RB's, TE's and a QB…..like The Dawgs… that can run the ball it's easier to keep the "beat down" and break the opponents will to win.

Nuff said!!
Great first post!! Welcome aboard!
Go Dawgs!
…….and don’t forget that 15 of Baugh’s 38 yards were on the last play of the first half. There was a holding call against Florida on that play (which contributed Baugh’s big gain), but Kirby declined the penalty and the half ended. It was 15 yards and a first down that Florida didn’t actually earn. I guess Kirby didn’t care and headed to the locker room. Go Dawgs!!!
I'm not going to DV your comments, but I mostly disagree with you. Several other posters have pointed out the obvious. We didn't need more offense. A very conservative running game did the trick. Kirby is not ever going to care about style points. He is a defense-first coach. Extensions of the run game suit him.
Still, I'm interested in what sort of offense you think the Dawgs should be using and should have used against Florida?
Go, Dawgs!
that sort of margin heading into the 3rd and 4th quarter is not enough. Teams mount those sorts of come backs every season. In fact see the Texas St-Boise game this past weekend. The play calling was crap throughout the game. Also, why are we calling so many QB runs?
After watching the defense eat up Bama and Florida I still can’t understand how Auburn beat us.
Loser Taylor . Can’t catch can’t hold on to the ball . Give his money to Dandridge . What a baller !!
Also, why are we calling so many QB runs?
Probably to let teams know that we are not afraid to call them!
Despite what they may have heard about any alleged injury to Gunner!
Coach Kirby always has a plan…..nothing is ever taken to chance!
A low risk offense was a great plan. I absolutely agree with that. I have to add though, my heart doesn't like some of the calls that were considered low risk. The UF DL was bringing it…they were disrupting the short passing lanes, similar to Auburn, and I'm worried that one of those batted balls on a screen play is going to go the wrong way at a bad time as the season continues. The other concern is with Gunner's designed runs - he has been taking a pounding with those, and I hold my breath after each one. Don't get me wrong, there is hardly a play without risk, but I think Gunner's going to have to stretch the field more if the offense is going to regain some of the early season form. Go Dawgs!
