Help

I need good news. Please. Any good uga football news to cheer me up. I just lost 5 completely finished song lyrics I was sitting on, waiting to be recorded, mixed, mastered and marketed, and as an artist, this is one of the most awful, depressing and flatout terrible things that could ever happen to someone. I poured my heart and soul into these songs, as I do for every one, but the worst part is I had already purchased the beats from the producers and these songs in particular had extremely special meaning to them because they told the story of addiction from all angles, the perspective of addiction personified, the addict, the drug itself, how the addiction snakes it’s way into a persons life, and finally, my personal motivations, the why, and how I overcame my personal addiction after years and years of relentless fighting. The one silver lining is that’s just the tip of the iceberg(on my Mac I have about 100 more songs I’m currently sitting on that are backed up thankfully but this just stings so **** bad. This is the worst feeling in the world. These songs are nothing less than my children and every song I write I develop an attachment to. I’m particularly attached to the 5 most recent ones because of how transparent I allowed myself to be. Do any of my tech savvy Dawg fans know how to possibly recover unsaved word document files? The brief research online I’ve come across says that after 4 days of being unsaved, they’re deleted but surely there has to be some sort of way to recover them from somewhere on the computer. I am literally setting aside all my pride here and begging. These songs were meant to reach people in the darkest of times and hopefully change some lives for the better. I’m crushed right now. If you’re not sure then, good old dawg news is always appreciated of course but still... I’m absolutely desperate here. Comment off topic if you want but either option will be welcomed with open arms(dawg news OR tech news, and not the bad kind). Thank you sincerely for anyone bothering to rely either way and I hope you have a better night than I’ve had so far.

Just general guidance/words. Don't know what you mean by "unsaved" word documents. Do you mean you had several open Word documents and hadn't saved any before they were "lost"? MS Word autosaves at intervals, but I don't know the particulars.

How these were lost might matter. PC or Mac might matter.

My advice is to find a person/firm in your area that says they can find missing files.

There is software that you might want to buy that autosaves to the great beyond. My mind is mush this AM. Might edit later. I actually have a service. D-amn brain!

There is also ChromeDrive if you install Chrome browser. Get so much storage for free - I don't use yet. Don't know if it has an autosave feature.

Long shot is to meditate/clear your mind and try to reconstruct them. At times I have found I can be pretty accurate/ might have some improvements. Good luck.

    Next game soon!

More technical +/-. Go into Word and find out where it stores the autosaved versions. Might have to look up - Google is your friend - where to look for the feature that shows this. (for a PC - Mac ?) Then use File Explorer to go to that folder, unless Word gives you a way to get there. On 2nd thought, use FE even if it does. May see some named files with ~ squiggley characters (and perhaps gibberish/numbers) as part of their names. Can usually open them in Notebook or whatever "low level" text editor you have. If you can, then these likely will not have any formatting, but the text should be there.

Something similar. Use File Explorer and look in each likely folder for anything that might be a Word file or a text file. Laborious, but what else are you doing today?

Bon chance, gopher! (Gopher, because you are going underground, buddy! - And also Caddyshack)

@finesse92 Nothing is ever truly deleted except by experts who are trained in how to make it go away. No offense but I doubt you've been trained how to do that. There will be a copy of them somewhere in your computer. Look for a computer fixing specialist in your area and take it to them. I had a computer blow up on me before and I was able to recover files by taking it to them. Just need patience and persistence and the willingness to spend some money but it should be possible to recover. Check the yellow pages and online for small businesses in your area that do this. If they can't do it they may know of someone who can.

If you are in the Athens area I know a very good computer repairman that is retired. He would love to help. Just let me know.

That’s what I thought too. And in case anyone is still following the thread(hopefully so cause I could still really use the help), I’ve looked everywhere online I could and from what I can tell, it says that unsaved drafts are there for 4 days and then they’re deleted. I own a windows if that helps. @FirePlugDawg does this info help at all? Last time I had them opened was about 9 days ago 😐 I’m sure if I had directions I could follow them to the t if there’s any way possible to access the documents. And yeah I hadn’t saved them and thought that auto save lasted indefinitely but apparently it only lasts for 4 days and then it’s deleted. Thank you guys so much for the advice and kind words, it really means a lot. I’ve been googling and searching YouTube nonstop, I refuse to give up. I’m sure I can eventually maybe remember the hooks but the verses are what I doubt I will be able to recall

Do you have a "trash" bin file on Windows. If so, you can open it up if it has not been 'emptied" and deleted files sit there for period of time...
