Former 13-year NFL veteran quarterback: 'Georgia is done'
Georgia football can still reach the College Football Playoffs by winning out, but analysts are starting to bet against the Bulldogs because of their receiving corps issues

As much as I want to disagree with him and say I don’t give a crap about his opinion, he is correct. All day long Saturday SC defenders were around our receivers like a blanket. Several of us in the stands were all saying the same thing, there is no separation. Until these young and talented receivers mature and realize this is the SEC and no longer high school football it could get real bad, real quick. Hoping for a speedy recovery for Cager and all our other injured players. Go Dawgs!
Yeah, I'm pretty concerned. I think it started with the Texas game. They prepared their defense to play us and we couldn't adapt. "Chopping Wood" isn't the answer: you have to punish them when they load the box or their do it everytime. That's been our problem for awhile now. You can have the best RBs in the nation and largest OL but a quality defense will stop you if they are ready for it.
I think the key part of his statement is "coaches didn't do anything to help them out." You don't have to have separation all over the field.
We see our opponents constantly looking for mismatches--getting their best receivers on Wilson or Daniel, getting their RBs on the run (as opposed to floating over the middle or in the flat) against our LBs, actually using TEs over the middle where size is more of advantage against 2-safety sets, and using rub routes to gain advantage.
It seems like our approach is "we're just going to do what we do, impose our will, and beat you straight up." We're getting out-schemed.
100% accurate, and it devastates me. I was really concerned about WR position preseason. Folks kept saying we'd be fine... but we are not fine. Our best players are grad transfers and true freshmen. That's just not a good place to be in. Attrition and injuries have surgically hit us in this spot. It's so sad because all the other pieces seem to be in place for a good run.
Yep, I agree. Unfortunately he's right.
OK so maybe the WR's are suspect but do we not have TE's or RB's that can catch a pass. I would rather have a catch for fiver rather than a run for one.
And in addition to receivers not being able to get open, our O-line is not being aggressive. What's the meaning of 'offense'? It means you should be on the offensive, meaning as an O-linemen you should get the push on the D-linemen & control the line of scrimmage, opening the holes where they are designed to be. But our O-linemen are being defensive, they are reacting to what the other team is doing. I suspect because of their size they are not quick enough to get the jump on their opponent. This is why our RB's are getting stuffed at the line. This is the downside to having such big players on the O-line, you always need to have some undersized, if you will, smaller, O-linemen (like David Andrews).
Well, we’ll see if our team can prove him (and many others) wrong. It’s hard to argue his point though. I’m anxious to see how the team responds.
Agree. Another reason we've got to start using our tight ends more on quick slants and passes over the middle.
Never heard of the guy, he must be really good.. A 13 year bench warmer 💪
NO new news here. It's what every team has tried so far. It's the blueprint as I wrote yesterday. Never a gaping hole for our backs to run through. With 8 men in the box it's hard to run as we are seeing. Cager was the only guy who consistently won the back shoulder pass.
Watched the replay of the game last night. It wasn't Jake's best. I replayed every pass he threw in slow motion. I wanted to see who was open and who wasn't. He made several throws to receivers who were covered versus other options that were more open. Case in point on the last 3rd down play before Rod missed the FG Jake had Swift wide open across the middle with no safety over the top. He would have waltzed in for a TD. He chose to try to force it in to DRob who was covered up. Need better decsion making from the guy who is supposed to be the "king" of decison making. Certainly not laying all the blame on Jake. But as a third year starter you just can't allow your team to get beat by an inferior opponent with a freshman QB in your home stadium. Period!
Joe Burrow & Kyle Trask completed many passes Saturday night without "receiver separation." Maybe UGA coaches, Fromm & receivers should review the film & see how its done.
Orlovsky is dead on. Jake is having to throw into tight windows and almost every throw is contested. The coaching staff is going to have to create some space in the routes. It's a recipe to punish a quarterback. The receivers also cost two picks when Landers turned the wrong way and when Simmons muffed an easy catch and tipped the ball to a defender.
