Saw the movie last night. Awesome. If you were spellbound by “Saving Private Ryan” you will be equally captivated by “Midway”.

Comparing it to SPR??? There's zero chance it measures up, but I'll give it a run.
SquillDawg: Please report back after you have seen it. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
I saw the previous midway in the theater with my father. It was awesome! Can’t wait to see this one! Although I can’t see it with him this since he passed away in 2001.
Am I the only one who thinks outside of the storming of Normandy beach Saving Private Ryan is a terrible movie? I'm okay if I am.
Didn't wanna go see Midway bc it looks a little too special effects heavy for me. Also I think as I get older the harder it is to move me emotionally in a war movie
Thanks for the recommendation. Agree with all the prior posts. Loved the original with
Gregory Peck*Henry Fonda. Assumed this one would be pretty bad, on par with Pearl Harbor (which I never saw, and never will).I've been waiting on Ford vs. Ferrari, but maybe I'll check this out first.

Convenient plot devices all over the place in that movie IIRC. I haven't seen it in a while but I remember thinking that, so the movie would definitely be overrated on that basis tbh.
Yes, you're the only one. ?
I've seen it a dozen times. To me it's pretty gripping start to finish. Slow paced but compelling story and well-developed characters. Hanks does a great job. Also Tom Sizemore. And the guy who plays the ****.
EDIT: Add one more to the list. Sni.per is apparently banned.
Not Gregory Peck. You're thinking of MacArthur - don't get me started. Henry Fonda, who was a Navy officer in WW2 in the Pacific, and Charlton Heston, ?, were in the 1976 version. Plus Nat Geo did one in 1999.
So, its been done a few times. self-sensored.
Thank you. 100%. Saw them all. And since we're on the subject, nothing beats George C. Scott as Patton.
William Goldman (wrote Butch Cassidy, Princess Bride) completely eviscerated it in an Oscar preview and now I cannot see it any other way. I won't link it so you can hold on to your love of it haha
Pretty sure I read that article at some point. William Goldman is my all time favorite screenwriter. I've seen everything he's ever done. He also was Aaron Sorkin's mentor, and I love pretty much everything he's done. It's all good.
Did you ever read his book adventures in the screen trade? All timer
Yeah, SPRyan great for invasion landing force and OK after that. I do also like the **** citing Psalm 23.
Have not seen Midway but have enjoyed Youtubing the battle. Great history and what drama history is.
Pacific war turned in a manner of 5 min as I recollect.
Yeah- it's fantastic. He was a hero of mine. Even down to the way he looked. Great mind, cool dude, interesting life.
Isn't this is true of just every Spielberg movie ever (with the possible exception of Jaws and Close Encounters). If you focus on that, his movies can be unwatchable. But if you don't focus on it, most of his movies are pretty great.
