Looks like UGA coaches are recruiting out-of-state more & more each year. One of the main points of the UGA job is the location to an incredible in-state rich talent pool. Tennessee built a national championship team in the '90's by recruiting Georgia; Auburn did it in 2010, & Clemson & Alabama have done it several times in the last 6-8 years. ALL of these mentioned teams have done this with GEORGIA HS RECRUITS.

Richt did not consistently recruit Georgia, but when he did he came close to winning it all. Greene & Pollack were from GA (Richt inherited them) early on as well.

Think about it... Deshaun Watson, Trevor Lawrence, Fields, sCam Newton, all came from Georgia.

Answer to your question: Recruit Vandagriff & if Williams isn't afraid of competition, then it shouldn't make much difference to him. History says that UGA would be just fine with an in-state QB.

P.S. Also, don't use the 'expert' recruiting services to build your team, but evaluate them with your own eyes.

Much can transpire twixt the cup and the lip the saying goes. Vandagriff came home so to speak...20 miles from Sanford Stadium....home seems to mean something to the boy....OK was not home. I believe that puts UGA closer to him as a commit. Williams is being heavily courted by LSU...tough to beat. The top program now in the nation. Burrow is gone. But Williams is showing interest in UGA as well....daily messages from the Dawg coaches. I would pursue both and try and commit both...even though UGA said Williams was the only QB for them. Always have options. Kirby's been around...he knows the drill....keep all your options open..much can happen between now and then. Who knows....Carson Beck may be the top signal-caller by then?

I just read back-up QB Chas Brice of Clemson may or has jumped into the cramped transfer portal. Clemson never started him except for one game and he did fairly well. I believe he is one of those brides maids and never a bride types. Why would UGA be interested?

Burrow was a 2 star recruit when he left high school, couldn't see the field at Ohio State, transfers to LSU. First year, had a 9-4 season, then with a new QB coach named Joe Brady, he won the Heisman, he passed for 60 TD's, he ran for 5 TD's, he won the SEC Championship, and to put icing on the cake he won the National Championship. Hollywood should make a movie of this story.

Having watched the film on Willams, Vandergriff, and BEck. Willams kid is a force to be reckoned with with the ball in his hands running. Like the best runner on the field type, ala Deshaun Watson or (Jalen Hurts). Threw one pass 66 yards on the money. Shorter kid listed at 6'1" Looks more like 6 ft. but built solid like a RB. Takes one look down field and if he doesn't like what he sees he takes off(at least on the film I saw). Not sure about him going through progressions. Kind of like back yard ball.

Beck appears to be the most college ready pure passer with amazing "touch" on the ball. Knowing when to put something on it and when to take a little off. If he was our best option I wouldn't feel bad about it to be honest.

Vandergriff looked like the best athlete(big kid by comparison) on the field among a pack of private school white kids(little and slow). 2nd best scrambling ability of the 3, not as fluid as a Joe Burrow running. Hard to judge him by the competition he played against. Least impressive of the 3 to me.

No doubt Georgia will either play with Vandergriff or play against him. He has gotten better every year.

It would be nice to have an OC who would call plays that would showcase the new qb’s talents.

Maybe the most important thing to consider is can the O-line get coached up so that we have a more consistent running attack. If so, then whoever is the QB will be fine. Better receivers, a QB who can take off and pick up a 1st down a few times a game, and a more aggressive running attack and the skies the limit. Too many times we couldn't get a yard when we needed it. LOL!

Not saying we'll be an LSU averaging near 50 a game. But no reason we can't be upper 30's. One thing that drove down the points per game last year was when we got the lead we went into running the clock out mode and taking away the offense, and it certainly made what should of been a couple of easy wins , nail biters.

"Of course, Williams will likely want to make a decision before Georgia shows off the offense with Newman. That makes things tough to sell to Williams, given he won’t be able to actually see what a player of his skill set might look like in the Georgia offense."

Doesn't this mean that he would also be making the decision before he sees what LSU's offense looks like without Joe Brady in the coaching booth?
