imageNew offensive philosophy for Kirby Smart? Not so fast, say Georgia players at NFL combine

ATHENS — It has often been said that actions speak louder than words, so many Georgia fans are of the mindset the Bulldogs’ offense could open up with a more aggressive pass game this season. It’s a thesis based on Kirby Smart hiring Air Raid guru Todd Monken as offense coordinator. Monken orchestrated the NFL’s most

The biggest thing is you need to be efficient while being balanced. Be able to keep the defense guessing and be equally good in the run and pass game. If you can be balanced, then you can dictate the tempo and put the defense back on their heels.

Creating mismatches and causing a defensive coordinator to change his scheme. Let's see Pickens get picked up by a linebacker, every now and then. Last year, defenses knew what they were going to do =stack the box and man press coverage. Every defense did it, because of minimal talent at WR. And the ball RARELY went over the middle. If dawgs can have a legitimate downfield passing game, running game should open up.

Its important to have good "urning backs", Mike, just like its important for a writer to at least run spell check before he posts.

Monken, Newman, Luke and other new faces..hum.....and still mostly run attack? Nah. Smart is definitely opening up the option game. Pickens' feet will hardly touch the ground this season. You will also see more backs catching passes as well...stunts,. curls...aerials. Balance will be the name of the new game.

Yes UGA will always under CKS look to get the run game going and wear teams down. That works most days against inferior opponents. It didn't against LSU. Granted there might not be another one of those teams for awhile but we all know the game is transitioning(already has) to more of a wide open attack. You've got to be able to match fire power with fire power. As good as the Clemson defense was and UGA's they were no match for a great passing attack.

You can't run 1st and 2nd down and then try to convert 3rd downs. That's old school football these days. The best teams will put up 45 points a game on average. 26 won't cut it

If the defense can't afford to load the box, then the passing game will be considered a success. I believe that is what Kirby means by "balanced attack." Monken's job will be to design the offense to beat a defense with the pass that is hell bent on stopping the run and stacking the box. If the defense lossens up to keep from getting beat with the pass, then the running game will feast. That is balance.
