Nothing for nothing, but you aren't escaping racism by going from Athens to Oxford.... Maybe the Oxford and Campus police treat the players differently there?? Does Otis have some insight on that? Anyway... He should sit a year. And the NCAA and SEC need to actually enforce their rules or come up with clearly defined ones to actually enforce and possibly even do away with the waiver altogether. What scenario would deem an absolute must and prevent a travesty for having to sit a year? Most players that transfer are not paying for their education, so that's out. I can't think of anything that would absolutely need a waiver.
Well I made it about 2 sentences into that article till the major eye rolls came out. The kids today are such babies. Fed a lie over and over again that they think is absolute truth now. I kept telling folks all that nasty rhetoric was gonna have a price.
Very well said.
unfortunately it seems that statements like this are growing more and more common and the lawyers are eating this up. It’s highly concerning that the race card is used so flipently, even in circumstances where all of the facts point to alternative motives. Seems this is a case of crying wolf
Hmm. I had no idea that the Athens cops were so anti-football players: I always thought it was the reverse and they kissed the butts of star players. I guess it's one of those control things.
Look, I'm a white guy, so my opinion means little here, but these are some very strong accusations and I guess there is no real answer for it. There are hateful people everywhere: those that mock you for your race, for your financial upbringing (either rich or poor), your height (if you are short), your name, religion, etc. That is the unfortunate reality of life and it isn't limited to college campuses: it exists at all places on this planet and it comes from people of all ages.
What doesn't make sense is that Otis is not the only African American on the team... by a longshot. How is Otis' experience compared with his teammates? Looking outward, how do UGA college players compare with other major universities? Has the State of Mississippi cured it's long time hatred of African Americans?
I guess the answer is... well, nothing. Cops will be cops. If they target Football players (of all race), then there's nothing TECHNICALLY wrong with that (since football isn't a protected group). What were the "tickets" and "citations" mentioned? That is physical proof, so talk about that. You can't get a ticket for doing nothing. What happened? If you got a speeding ticket for doing 5 mph over the speed limit, then that's proof that something is odd.
He said if he was allowed to transfer last year he would be playing, did someone hold a gun to his head?
So for those saying "no other players experienced this", several retweeted his tweet and Kearis Jackson seems to be confirming it, at least the interaction with the police. Kirby needs to get way out in front of this right now.
Bet if he was a starter at UGA he wouldn't be saying such things.
The biggest problem with his accusations, is if he hadn't been bypass by other players he would still be at Georgia, now that he has transfer to another college he comes out with all these accusations, not before, but after he has been told he would have to sit a year, now if he had been allowed to play, he would have never mentioned any of these events, there are racist in all colors everywhere in this world, but to use this just to get playing time, I'm sorry, but it falls on deaf ears, because I know that it's being used for his own personal agenda.
Seems like the transfer portal has now become an excuse for a player to drum up unprovable accusations against their former team/teammates/coaches in order to obtain immediate eligibility. I hope someone can back up these claims Otis is making.
I'm sure he's heard racial slurs at UGA (just like he would most anywhere else sadly) and I'm sympathetic to that.....but my take on this whole thing is that he's trying to leverage this into immediate eligibility just like Justin Fields. It's now become a strategy for many of these kids when they don't get what they want (thanks to immoral attorneys representing them). I doubt UGA is holding up his case...the kid is looking for someone to blame. So Otis blame the incompetent NCAA and stop the bad mouthing of one of the best schools in the country giving you a free scholarship and a chance to make it big in the NFL....you couldn't cut it at UGA and that's your issue not UGA's. This is not a good look for recruiting!
I def wouldn't go to any school in Mississippi but hell but i can understand him leaving if he had to deal with students being racist bc its there at uga. They just shut down a frat bc of racism. Maybe he did tell the coaches but since Kirby only lets minimal info out the program we'll never know. We did have a racist playing qb for 3 yrs. Jake Fromm sry ass
So, other than a policeman, whose going to say something racial to Otis Reese? Just sayin. Just a case of "it worked for Justin." Does he really believe Mississippi doesn't have racists? The race card trumps everything today , sadly. If you deny allegations, just proves you're a racist. So, they say.
The only thing I'd like to add, well two things, is none of us knows the truth. For all we know, Otis Reese's complaints are spot on, and the fact that he didn't bring them up earlier doesn't mean that they are not true. And if true, they need to be investigated. But the other thing, and someone else mentioned this, is that several of the Black players STILL at UGA retweeted his post, thus amplifying it. And so I wonder if they did so to just say, "hey, we support our boy getting the chance to play right away," or are they saying they agree with the claims he's made, INCLUDING that CKS did or is giving him a raw deal? That would be good to know. I'm almost sure that Kirby has addressed this with those players, or perhaps the entire team, because underlying stuff like this will divide and destroy a team far quicker than any COVID diagnosis.
When you don't have proof of a so called injustice, you yell racism. If he had left UGA for almost anywhere in the nation, but Ole Miss I would have thought he really had a case. I don't know if the state is still as bad as the movie portrayed it in "Mississippi Burning", but the school still has a Rebel mascot..
