I'm not a fan of fellow Dawg fans having so much trouble just admitting maybe they might have jumped to conclusions about an opponent. It's a message board, i'm having fun. It's not that serious.
And if Arkansas winds up 4-6 or 5-5 you better believe i'm bumping this thread again.
I wonder how this thread might have gone if the OP had written "Arkansas is better than I believed they would be" or "Arkansas played better than I thought they would".
I agree that I probably should have put "may be" in the title because I keep forgetting that many people don't read the OP and just assume they know what the thread is about.
Simplified:
Georgia obviously didn't play well in the first half.
But Arky was so poorly coached the past 2 seasons.....no way they should have performed as poorly as they have the past two seasons.
21 SEC losses in a row.....with the amount of talent that they supposedly have is ridiculous.....
Never suggested that Arky would be good.....simply argued with their talent and new coaches.....especially coordinators.....that Arky would be better than what most/many people believed.
It's difficult to figure out why some seemed to read more into it than intended.
But I'll double down......Arky is definitely better than what most people believed. It's a simple statement that isn't intended to justify how Georgia played. If someone has a difficult time understanding that statement and reading more into it than was intended.....that's on them.
in sports and in life people don't want to admit they were wrong...or misguided. we are all guilty of acting on past expectations. people hyped up MSU's win over LSU? why...LSU lost a zillion starters and their DC. The result surprised me a little, but it shouldn't have been that shocking.
Arkansas has been a dumpster fire without guidance for the last two years. Chad Morris has shown he is not HC material. At least maybe not at the SEC level. Pitt Boss comes in, clearly knows what he doesn't know hires a future HC and a former HC to coordinate his offense and defense respectively. He brought in a grad transfer QB for all his faults has played a ton of SEC games. Franks isn't great, but he is better than whoever they had.
Arkansas may be better than they were last year. We struggled against them in the first half and might not have if we had gotten a full spring practice. Both things can be true. Nuance is still allowed.
To be so hardheaded about this just looks childish. "hey, maybe I was wrong." or "hey, maybe Arkansas is ok" or just keep your mouth shut and don't double down on your short-sightedness...
I said “we’ll see.” Still stand by it. Sorry if not “admitting I was wrong” is so troubling to you. Oh wait...no I’m not. Never mind.
feeling is mutual bud
I still can't get past the daw.
So hold up, if nuance is allowed why can’t someone have a different opinion than the masses? You want me to admit maybe I was wrong, after 2 games? And sure MSU beat LSU but they still went 3-5 in conference last year, so they’re not necessarily a good team either. If nuance is allowed can’t Tex say Arkansas is better than he thought and I can say the game should have been over at halftime?
That’s not what nuance is. Never change guy.
Point is if nuance is allowed why isn’t a difference of opinion?
But way to be condescending
I agree game should have been over at half time. Matter of fact.....I completely agree that game should have been over at half. A horrible half of football by Georgia.
How Georgia played was NEVER my point.
My point was about Arkansas. Was never about trying to justify or provide excuses for Georgia's performance.
Thought that was fairly clear in my OP.
Fair enough.
I get your point, I just don’t think Arkansas is good or quote better than I thought. If you agree that the game should have been over at halftime what are we discussing here?
They won a conference game so technically they’re better than last year. I hope they are improved, it helps our resume. I hope they continue to improve. But after TWO games I’m still not ready to say they’re better than I thought.
See, that wasn’t so hard.
I thought your OP was a bulls-eye, Tex. It was completely vindicated by the weekend's games. You went out of your to say ARK probably wasn't a great team, but simply better than many think. Sometimes I wonder how our fans would have reacted to big games in the past where we struggled. I remember one year when we opened with Tennessee (a Vol team that wound up going 5-7, so nothing special), and we struggled far worse than we did against ARK. Our starting TB was Donny McMickens. How many remember him? Anyway, the Dawgs almost lost that opener to a mediocre UT team. We were down 15-2 late in the game. Vince Dooley, much like Kirby did, decided to make a personnel change and substituted a freshman by the name of Herschel Walker into the game, and suddenly the Dawg offense began to move. We wound up barely winning that one, 16-15. Everybody knows the rest of that story. The point being that you are going to have adversity in every season, where teams you should beat badly wind up playing you close. We may not win it all this year, but the game at ARK was well within the normal range for a Natty winning team, imho.
