The NFL is not a developmental league. We all know that. I saw why Fields didn’t beat out Fromm last year against Clemson, he was a one read guy which is ok when you have superior talent. This year I saw real progression. But he’s not there yet. I know he’s going to take the money and go, but if he does I’d be surprised if he ever becomes an elite NFL QB. If he comes back and hones his craft and really focuses on development, I think he could be special in the league.
What say you?

He's not going to hone any QB craft at OSU. If he comes back he will likely put up ridiculous stats and probably win the Heisman...but he'll go in to the NFL no better prepared than he is now. RPO is a career killer in the pros.
Take the money JF and put college football in the rearview mirror
The plan was always three and out. It’s why he fought for the waiver. He has nothing holding him to Ohio. He did what he went there to do. He’s as good as gone. He will go top 5 and never think twice.
NFL practices probably 3 times more though the week than college players. And they do it far more throughout the year. How does this prevent development?
Respectfully (and a bit tongue-in-cheek)...
The OP needs to be drug tested...
Its more about the scheme and being asked to do more presnap and during the play. The spread scheme is notorious for ruining great college qbs once in the pros. How many all world OSU QBs have come and gone and been complete flops in the nfl? A lot... QBs pick UGA cause we do the pro style offense and it prepares better for the pros. Or at least that's the pitch in recruiting
Yeah its time for him to go get paid, and hopefully he'll drop to the Falcons at 4. Don't expect Matt Ryan to roll out the Red Carpet though. Matt's job is to b the QB of the Falcons, not to b the QB Coach for Fields, Wilson or Lance and for the record I'd b happy with any 1 of the 3. Lawrence simply is not gonna fall to us at 4 but obviously I'd love to have him 2.
You don’t know the Falcons. They will draft somebody’s 2-3 rounder from Armpit State in the first round. They have it down to a science.
how many UGA QBs have been successful in the pros? Stafford and ?
I would rather UGA win titles, like Ohio St has the last 20 years, and have 1 fewer successful NFL QB
Same. I used to brag about our guys success in thr NFL. I’d trade it all for one natty.
Tarkenton is in HOF.
Dang, I missed him in the last 20 years. You're right, Kirby's pitch to HS kids is they could be the next Tarkenton. That's a way better selling point than Ohio St has with with those two national titles this century.
I should have mentioned 20 years in my post so it wasn't confusing and you'd know I meant recently. I should have quoted someone so there was context to my post. I can see why you were confused and mentioned Tark. Otherwise it would be moronic to mention a QB from 60 years since it's not relevant at all.
It is a good point. For all our bragging about running a pro-style offense, we certainly haven't been stocking the NFL with QB talent. Stafford and Tark. That's about it. CMR was supposed to be the QB whisperer....but why? I don't really care about getting guys to the NFL. I'd like to get an NC or two eventually.
Yeah it's a terrible argument to say that Ohio State QBs don't do well in the NFL so you should come to UGA. Georgia QBs don't do well in the NFL. Tark was 60 years ago so nothing to do with today's game or recruiting. Even Stafford is getting long in the tooth to use in recruiting, ignoring he was under a different coach.
Our track record of putting qbs in the NFL is terrible.
