Coach Richt and Kirby both had 52 wins in their 1st 5 seasons. Coach Richt had 49 wins his last 5 seasons at UGA. He wasn't fired for being an underwhelming coach, unless you figure winning 10 games a year a bad thing. He was fired because he could never get us to the Natty.
By the same token the way some judge CMR, Kirby may one day be viewed as underwhelming considering his prowess at recruiting classes. Just say'n. To whom much is given, much is expected.
I believe in Kirby, just like I did CMR, until he proves otherwise. But honestly, so far, other than great recruiting, he hasn't been any better at coaching them up than CMR was his first 5 seasons. I believe it could be argued that CMR did more with less talented players his first 5 seasons recruiting wise seeing how Florida , Tennessee, Auburn and South Carolina all had more competitive teams than they have been during Kirby's time so far..
Totally believe we will win. However now or never narrative is pure bs.
We're typing in circles. It's not about not giving Kirby credit for 2017, it's about what he's done and not done with the top classes he's recruited. There will always be fans who knee jerk defend and knee jerk criticize, I don't think I'm doing either, I think I'm stating facts and being open minded about Kirby's tenure so far.
I'm very optimistic where the program is headed, but I'm I as confident Kirby will win titles as I was at the end of the 2017 season ? no I'm not.
Kirby will be at Georgia minimum 20 years and will win at least 3 National Championships or as many as 5. He's already had Alabama steal 1 from under his nose and cost himself a chance at another 1 when he failed to tailor his Offense around Justin Fields and went with the safer but limited Jake Fromm and I don't think he'll make that mistake again. Again the jury is still out but I see Kirby as the modern games Bobby Bowden with the way he recruits and he'll fall into 3 National Championships at Georgia before he's done.
"fall into" doesn't suggest you think very highly of him as a coach - almost as if they'll win several NC's in spite of him. No one is that lucky...if they do win several natty's. to whom would you give the credit?
This year sets up beautiful for Kirby. The SEC East continues to be one of the weakest divisions in college football. Both KY and UF will have new quarterbacks. No one comes close to having talent like UGA, in either division. The cross over games are probably easier this year than they will be in the future. AU has a new coach. Arkansas will have a new quarterback and if we were to admit the truth UGA’s second units are better than Arkansas’s starters.
This year it really is a two game season, Clemson and the SECCG. Winning the SEC is the surest road to the playoffs. Winning the SEC this year will probably not be as difficult as it has in the past or even in the near term future. UA and A&M are probably the strongest teams but both will have new quarterbacks.
The real challenge in the playoffs will probably be OU. It will be a shoot out.
So this year does present the best opportunity to win a national championship. The question is will it happen.
As long as UGA keeps recruiting well then there will always be a chance of all the stars aligning and KIrby winning something big. It's time to coach them up and make it happen.
Kirby didn't have a NC stolen from him. He changed his game plan after he got ahead and went conservative trying to run the clock out. When that happened BAMA seized the momentum and never gave it back.
The only reason there was an overtime to begin with was the BAMA kicker missed a sure thing.
No, I think Kirby is a very good Coach now and at the level he recruits at he'll win Championships and b remembered as a Great Coach and this upcoming season will probably be his 1st with more to come.
I very much disagree. 1st yes the east is down but even comparing the east to the ACC is laughable. Win a game or 2 in the ACC and you're in the playoffs. .
The second thing was about UK and flurduh. I hate uf more than anyone, n imo Jones is a sub par qb, so let that tool Mullen be the qb whisperer do his thing. But UK has recruited pretty good in the last few cycles. UK and Arky worry me more than UF.
Again, with the way Kirby has recruited and continues to recruit and with a great Coaching Staff and a UGA administration thats all in on doing whatever (Within reason) it takes to complete for Championships year in and year out, Georgias Championship window should b open a good long while no question. And remember, Kirby is only 45 years old I think so he'll b around for at least another 12-15 years at Georgia so whats up with all of this now or never nonsense.
The comparison is Clemson to the ACC and UGA to the SEC. There is no team in the East that should be a challenge, not even UF this year. The crossover games with the West also should not present a problem. Having said this, it does not mean there is not a game that could not end in a loss. It also means as it concerns the SEC, it is a one game season and that game will be against the winner of the West.
For this year, it is not much different than every year in the ACC and Clemson. The exception is to reach the playoffs, the championship game will be against a much better team than Clemson will have to defeat.
