Name an elite defense that beat bama...that’s right it’s been offensive teams that beat bama. Defense was a big letdown for sure but we gotta be able to score and move the ball. Seems like every time we play bama our offense leaves the defense on the field so much of the game against an elite bama offense and idc who you are your not winning like that.
Ugh. Where to begin. It wasn't just Bennett. Blown coverages, MIA pass rush, the sheer absence of mind in failing to recover that fumble. The defense was a big disappointment in this game. It was very similar to last year, including Bennett starting out well before ultimately finishing with a generally poor performance.
The whole quarterback situation is just so baffling. And not just because Daniels isn't the starter. As much as people want to make this about Smart just liking Bennett more, he made Daniels the starter at the beginning of the year, and wasn't even shy about it, which is a little unusual. And that's what's so strange about the lack of reps for Daniels over the past few weeks since he's been healthy. It's not like Smart has some aversion to playing him. I'm at a point now where I'm pretty convinced there's something going on that we're probably never going to know about. I'm not into conspiracy theories, I just don't see any other way to explain it. I mean, if Smart was just straight up man crushing on Bennett, or whatever pejorative people want to give it, as weird as that would be, at least that would explain it. But if it were that simple, he could have just said Bennett won back the job in the off-season.
I've been wanting Daniels to be the starter since he came here. I guess we'll see if there's any hope for seeing what this team can do with him as the established starter in the next few weeks. We know Bennett's ceiling; for all of his improvement, it's pretty much the same as it was last year. I wasn't going to fault a coach for sticking with what was working, as long as it was working. We had something like the nation's #6 scoring offense, so, fine. But we've burned our mulligan. There's no reason not to re-install Daniels at this point.
I've been optimistic about the direction of this program since Smart's arrival. I want to be optimistic. But if we fail to win out from this point on, and Bennett is still running the offense without some sensible explanation, that optimism is going to be much harder to come by in 2022 and beyond.
You got to play quarterbacks during the year and throw the ball in the 4th quarter to build chemistry and give guys confidence and opportunities. Stetson had 11 pass attempts the entire year in the 4th quarter of all 12 games till tonight. You’re not going to hold Bama to 14 points. Will need at least 40 to have a chance. I love Stet as a competitor, but IMO you’re not winning a NC with him. He’s reached his ceiling. Stop being hardheaded CKS
Call it a Mater Dei game. One Mater Dei QB = Heisman Trophy.
The other Mater Dei QB (w/a better resume) = on the UGA sideline.
Oh and I forgot
Let's hope that lesson applies from that point on...
IF you get a second chance against Bama, double #1 and spy Young with a backer. Make someone, anyone else beat you besides #1. Make them drive the field to score, not 50 yard bombs, that may help CKS!
I firmly believe that offense and defense are related. When the defense loses faith in the offense, the attention to detail fails. That is what we saw today.
Georgia had two problems today. The defense and the quarterback. The defense can be adjusted and improved, but the quarterback position has maxed out its potential, and we need a change. I expect that Kirby is so stubborn that he will not make a change, and that could likely lead to Stetson deciding to return for another season. Heaven forbid!!
What will it take for Kirby to wake up?
There’s an old saying somewhere I am sure don’t get in a boat race with a heisman winner when your guy is a game manager
Not having Anderson showed up today
We don’t have the secondary to do man
Everyone acts surprised that Kirby Smart screws up a quarterback situation. Isn’t that the same story year after year? Let’s be honest, I think I could have played QB against the regular season schedule and went undefeated. Kirby has to figure out how to coach in big games and stop being the bully on the playground that just got popped in the nose.
“I feel like there were times tonight where we were getting into a scoring contest because our defense didn’t get stops. You don’t want to have to do that.” Kirby doesn't get it... If your D isn't getting stops you ARE in scoring contest. If you don't have an offense that can match Alabama score for score you will not win. Bennett just isn't that guy against across the board talent like Alabama. We don't need to see it a third time.
Some more thoughts.
