“The shoulder was bothering him, but there hadn’t been a lot of large limitation,” Smart said
EXCEPT that Steddy has not been able to hit the man down field accurately, as he has early in the season. IF he is a major cog in the system (as many have said below) why is he playing and why is he playing in a blow out at the end.
I will beat this drum till some hears it, Saban beat us with a "back-up" QB twice, once for the Natty and the other for the SEC.
Many appear to be deep-ball overthrows, which may be the result of slower substitute receivers. Overthrows can be more easily corrected, as it is related to timing more so than arm strength.
I see the Natty TD pass differently. I think the ball was perfectly thrown—especially where Bennett had an offsides defender in his face. AD caught that ball near the back of the end zone. Had the ball arrived as an over-the-shoulder catch, AD might not have been able to come down with it in bounds. It was 40+ yards through the air. Beautiful (free) play by both QB and receiver.
Alright everyone, the TRUTH TELLER is on the scene so settle down while I tell you what's up. I know some of you get upset when someone says something negative about a player - but you know what? I don't care! The truth is the truth and sometimes, truth hurts! First of all, all of you truth deniers that get upset when MG points out the truth about Bennett and his lack of ability in the long game need to look at the facts MG supplied instead of getting all ruffled up and crying about his supposed "negativity" towards Bennett. I see it as truth telling. MG has been fair on this matter - when Bennett was being "talked up" for the heisman, MG supplied some facts as to why that could be a possiblity. MG is fair. But MG tells the truth. Some of you can't handle the truth. Fact. I know, some of you think this should be a "fan only" site. It is, after all called "Dawgnation". But understand this. MG has a long career as a sports JOURNALIST. He has covered many teams, with the Dawgs being the latest. When he was hired, his employers knew exactly HOW he would cover the team and they hired him anyway. Don't be upset because he is doing his job. You want him to roll over for the dawgs and not be objective, that's fine - but you are frustrating yourself because you don't understand WHY he was hired in the first place. You have BA on staff who is a dawg FAN. That's the guy that will look at how the dawgs play through rose covered glasses. MG looks at how the dawgs play through a different lens. One that can be positive or negative depending on what the facts dictate. So, if the truth hurts, perhaps find another site where all they throw at you is unicorns and flowers. I appreciate the fact that when things are going wrong for the dawgs, someone is there to point it out. And when things are going great, that same person is pointing that out as well. I have heard MG support the dawgs to Finebaum as well as on other sports talk shows. But, again, that is not why he was hired. He is commissioned to tell the truth wherever that might lead. Thank you MG!
There is no QB controversy and there won't be. Last year UGA had another QB that some (half?) fans thought could take them further than SBIV. They don't have that this year. It is SBIV or bust.
And most if not all UGA fans think SBIV is a good player and like his moxie. Is he an elite player? Or did his elite teammates help make him more effective? SBIV overthrew LMcConkey last week. Off his fingertips. Why? Because he didn't have GPickens laying out and making a circus catch like he did in the CFBCG. BBowers made a spectacular circus catch for a TD vs SC a couple of weeks ago on a fade (50/50) route. It was almost as great a catch as the one he made vs MI in the CFBPO 1st rd game last season. AD Mitchell has been out. Remember the TD catch AD made in the CFBCG pictured above? 6'4" AD outmuscled and outfought the smaller freshman DB from AL on a 50/50 ball.
The point is SBIV is a good player, But his elite teammates (something JTD's doesn't have at WVU for those comparing apples and oranges) have made great plays for him. SBIV's struggles with accuracy have been covered up to a degree by elite teammates making elite plays. That needs to be fixed if UGA is to win the SEC and make another run.
My suggestion to Monken is to call plays for SBIV to take deeper drops. That way SBIV can see over the OL and see (and use) the middle of the field. Right now he is not using the whole field. Slot KJackson (the guy CR said would lead the team in receiving) has all but completely disappeared. UGA OL has pass blocked better than run blocked. Deeper drops also allows SBIV to utilize his renowned running and scrambling ability. By using the whole field SBIV won't see D's stacked for the WR/TE screens and McIntosh out of the backfield.
Also get CBeck or another QB ready in case SBIV gets more than "dinged up". IF SBIV does in fact have a dinged up throwing shoulder then playing him deep into the 4th Q of blowout games is insane.
Bowers and McConkey?
@UGADad20 Yeah, not sure where the story says anything about a controversy. People hear and see what they want, it seems.
For the first time this season(well maybe second) I questioned if CKS should pull SB and put in Beck just to see if he could spark the offense early on. Something by the way I NEVER thought I would ever think. I have touted SB almost as much as some on here but he hasn't looked good, at all, for awhile now. Not for a 5th or 6th year QB with the 2nd or 3rd ranked team in the nation with lots of experience and a NC win at this point. We beat Missou and Auburn because they didn't have Qb's capable of beating us. That won't always be the case.
I watched Bryce Young make Arkansas look like their defense didn't even show up. It was sooo easy. SB hasn't done that to any team since Oregon. I hope he gets better sooner than later.
