Finally finished Game of Thrones. Now watching House of Dragon
Finally finished GOT. I gave up after 5 seasons last time and decided to give it another go. Watching it again I was able to follow the story line much better. I really enjoyed it. The ending was a bit rushed, but I still really liked it.
However, the new House of the Dragon s.ucks. Boring, weird looking characters, terrible hairdoos (what is up with all the enormous white hair?), and lame acting. I'm on episode 7 now, and it's just uninspired. I'm going to finish it just because, but it is not even close to GOT.

I have been a Song of Fire and Ice (aka Game of Thrones) fan since reading the books years ago (long gave up on waiting for “the Great Bearded Glacier” to finish the final two books). The last two ‘mini seasons’ were really rushed plot-wise—as you say—probably because most of the episodes had astronomical production costs.
Hated House of the Dragon until the final two episodes, but it picks up, and these final episodes are vastly better than the rest of season. Although George R.R. Martin (Game of Thrones author) was consulted, he didn’t write extensive background material for House of the Dragon—which explains much.
I’m with you. Also just finished GOT. Really enjoyed it…and surprised that I did.
Also recently finished The Wire. Outstanding
In the middle of Boardwalk Empire- really good
Watching the Crown with my wife- it’s ok
plan on breaking bad after boardwalk
Wire is the second best show all time behind sopranos
Let's not forget Justified.
Hell on wheels is **** good too , as is Pinky Blinders.
I am also a big fan of the song of fire and ice books. The show was great until the final two seasons, but I still enjoyed them.
I'm actually re-watching the GOT series myself. Just started it and am only on the 3rd or 4th episode so far. I really enjoyed House of the Dragon too. It was smart writing. Something you don't see very much these days.
100% agree. Hell on Wheels is such an underrated gem of a show. Awesome music too!
*Peaky Blinders
Not trying to be a smart arse, just sayin’.
Great show!
Did they ever release the final season…? Too lazy to search at the moment. Female lead actress passed away between seasons.
My top shows ever… GOT (watched it all the way through three times); Breaking Bad; Weeds (first three seasons and final season); MASH… also really enjoyed The Last Kingdom (great books, too, by one of my favorite historical fiction authors) and Cheers, as well as the first several seasons of Deadwood. Eclectic selection maybe… 😎
I'm with ya Hemingwey. All of those are some of my favorites. Except for Deadwood. I couldn't get into that. Great acting with rambling dialogue and no plot. I saw they have a movie out and considered trying it. I hear it's decent.
And I know it's supposedly one of the GOATs, but I never really saw much of Mash. It was a wee bit before my time. I remember it as a kid though.
I loved Deadwood.
Rome is another series to check out. Really enjoyed that one. A lot like GOT but without dragons and magic and zombies.
That explains a lot. It is really nothing like GOT. It's like if Disney decided to do a GOT spinoff.
My only beef with GOT was that for 7 and a half seasons we were waiting for winter to come and the zombie apocalypse. Then it came and it was over in one episode.
My biggest problem with GOT was Bran becoming ‘king’… it didn’t fit, at all… I suspect that should George R.R. Martin ever finish the books, this won’t happen. 🤞
Yeah, basically Starks rule all of Westeros with Sansa queen of the North. I thought that was unlikely. By the way, Sansa was my favorite female character.
On the House of Dragons, I wonder if it was intentional making all the Targaryans look kind of "off". They all have a weird, in-bred look about them. They have a family history of in-breeding, so it makes me wonder about the casting since they all have that weird angular, distorted fairy-pixie look.
Not sure Martin has written any books about the period covered by House of the Dragon… He did write a funny prequel novel called, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”, in which the pre-GOT Targaryans were fairly heroic and interesting… won’t go further than that because I hate spoilers. If you are a reader, you should consider the novels. The first three to four seasons of the show are pretty much true to the books, then the two diverge substantially.
