Anybody know why Cottrell and Meriweather haven’t signed? Go Dawgs and it looks like a great class!!!

Agree 1000%! I like that word, “hypocrite”!

If you all remember, it was Urban Crier who caused the “stir” back in the day when he continued to recruit young men who were committed elsewhere despite the admonitions of the Michigan and Wisconsin coaches about breaking the “unwritten, gentlemen’s agreement, rule” the Big 10 had against such a practice.

Day worked with Meyer since 2017, and before he he was asked to retire at the end of 2018, …..so the “tOSU” way of recruiting was already in place!

Day is such a whiner….. what a maroon!

No one expects these athletes-- even the most highly rated-- to step on campus and instantly perform at an All America level... that's what big-time training, development, and coaching are for. Stay on the kids already in the room, and get busy with the newbies... an enviable amount of talent to work with. Go Dawgs!

Looks like more winners than losers.....and the transfer portal is not really much of a loser for us.....yet! We'll see after the CFP.

There is more to this than meets the eye. It could be something simple like no fax machine access or academic qualification related. It could be that the expected Hughley flip didn't happen and now the #'s at OT are over plan. Or UGA is still in the mix for Deandre Moore or a TP WR and the WR #'s are being reviewed.

There will probably be 10 UGA players in the TP when all is said and done. Guessing quite a few OL. UGA may want to take more mature and experienced players out of the TP than project HS players.

UGA probably adds those 2 players in the end but may need to wait until the TP numbers are finalized.

I agree…..there are numerous potential explanations. The fact that we signed 3 WRs and looking at 3 others in the TP could be a bit intimidating for Cottrell. I hope his not signing is just a fluke and he’s not scared-off due to competition because he will have that anywhere he goes. Go Dawgs!!!

Good points Connor! Kirby shys away from the spotlight and that gives him a ton of credibility when making statements about his team - he has always pushed the fact that it is a team effort and I rarely (if at all), have heard him talk about himself in any sort of "patting himself on the back" kind of way. It is impressive how this man can control the narrative and keep things focused on the essential things - this will continue to serve him and dawgnation well in the future! GO DAWGS!

We got a great recruiting class, but for the life of me I can't comprehend HOW Saban got BOTH Caleb Downs and Justice Haynes out of Georgia, especially Haynes, an UGA legacy. Of course, Bama has already lost 13 guys so far to the portal.

Glad to see a bunch of these recruits are already enrolled or will be enrolled in January. The earlier they start adjusting and learning the rigors of the Smart culture the better off and more productive they will be for the Dawgs.

I agree that Kirby has been, from the get-go, head and shoulders above other HCs when it comes to what I'll call mature public relations. And of course he's always been an elite recruiter. I didn't agree in is earliest years with some of his game time decision making and, frankly, how he managed his assistant coaches… and that has really evolved nicely, sticking to what a great HC should be doing in terms of game prep and management. But as I said, he's been remarkably cool on the external front from the very beginning. Go Dawgs!

I said the same thing about Downs and Haynes on another platform. I just can't figure out what the appeal of Alabama over Georgia was for BOTH kids. I hope they live to regret their decisions.

But @Kconnorriley, while I agree with most of your article, I think you're reaching a bit to make the TP a "loser" based on the production -- or lack thereof -- of Arik Gilbert. Just because he didn't pan out for us, doesn't mean the TP iself is a failure. Just last season, Derion Kendrick transferred in and was a godsend for us. And that was AFTER he had had some troubles of his own at Clemson. Obviously, just like these new recruits, some kids coming out of the portal will have success, others will not. But you can't make wholesale judgements based on one player. What we fans knew of Gilbert at the time, and based on his freshman year at LSU, we thought he would be a GREAT addition. More people, including most reporters who cover the Dawgs, felt that way after seeing him in the G-Day game. And then, for reasons we'll probably never completely know, things didn't work out. But Kirby Smart certainly hasn't turned against the TP and hopefully, we'll find success there again. Same for Arik Gilbert. Go Dawgs!
