Bobo had a hand in recruiting Matthew Stafford, Aaron Murray and Hunter Stockton...not to mention, Knowshon Moreno, Nick Chubb, Todd Gurley and Sony Michel.

I think, "the Bobo hire", might actually add a notch or 2. Monkin wasn't much of a recruiter, so, the shift will actually add another recruiter to replace the position Bobo held, before the promotion.

Bobo is a better recruiter, based on history, than Monken. Is he a better play caller? Frankly, I don’t know. What I think I do know is that it’s easier to call plays when you’re calling them for the team with the superior talent.

We will all be watching to see how Coach Monken’s play calling succeeds, or not, next season when his team is playing against teams with equal talent. The NFL is a much different deal. I wish him well in his next foray into the NFL world and hope it works out better than his previous stints in the NFL.

Going by that criterion...Monkin didn't do that great against Mizzou or Kentucky, last year. Every OC needs to be picked up by their defense from time-to-time...and when Bobo was OC at UGA previously...he had no defense. So, there's that.

Bobo's about to have some fun and I for one, can't wait to watch. Talk about explosive..."you ain't seen nothin' yet". Lol

I am a big conspiracy theorist. I don't think anybody does anything without a reason. But the Monken/SBIV "agreement" to return together, while possibly true , sounds far fetched. Monken may have come back for the raise and the lack of an attractive NFL OC job. Doing it twice (NC) also upped his profile/value. SBIV came back for the back to back challenge, to improve and most of all for the NIL. The NIL SBIV made this year was more than he would have made had he gone undrafted (probable) after the '21 season. And doing it twice (NC) also upped his profile/value.

What will be very interesting is will Balt now draft SBIV? SBIV seems like a good back up for Lamar Jackson. Similar skills/game. PLUS he already knows the O. That alone helps Balt have a productive training camp and preseason. BUT there was (a lot of?) rumored friction between Monken and SBIV. So much so that they needed a go between. (Faulkner)

As for BVG, he just seems like a bigger, stronger SBIV. What he lacks is experience. IF a smaller, "weaker" SBIV was plenty of QB for UGA, then BVG should be plenty as well. I wouldn't count him out.

Lol...I only bring that "conspiracy" up, to make conversation. But...really, it makes as much sense to me, as Monkin going to Baltimore...this year of all years. If Baltimore takes Bennett in the 3rd round or higher...we'll know.

Brock's accuracy is a concern to me...especially throwing on-the-run. That's why I don't see him running the offense. But, it's hard to tell with the small sample size. I would have to see him run the offense again, this Spring, before I can definitely rule him out. Cause you're right. The kid can flat out run with the ball. If he fails at QB, he could always shift to TE or RB. I have no idea, what his sprint times are, though.

As far as the reported possible friction...I don't think that matters. I probably don't have to tell you...but, sometimes, when 2 or more, competive, intense, stubborn, intelligent people work together on one project, they are likely as not, to butt heads. In fact, it usually makes them both "better"...for some Freudian reason. Lol. Kind of like Paul & John of the Beatles. Or, a Husband & Wife.

I remember Jimmy Johnson and Bernie Kosar getting in each other's face, on the sidelines, once. Bradshaw didn't get along with Bud Knox, Unitas didn't get along with Shula, Namath didn't get along with Bryant....and so on. It effected all of those guys in various ways...both negative and positive.

If Monkin takes Bennett in the Draft...we'll know the nature of that volatile relationship is positive.

I don't think it's the kind of friction that impedes...but, rather enhances each other's effectiveness. I could be dead wrong. But, I think it's kind of funny. Had UGA lost last year, it might not be as humorous. Lol

Remember when SBIV hedged for a short time on coming back? I think he wanted assurances that he would start spring as QB1. Maybe he wanted assurances that Monken was coming back and he would be running the same O? IDK. That was probably part of the discussion as well.

Any friction they may have had at UGA will be put aside should Balt select SBIV. They are very capable of having a professional relationship for the betterment of each. Especially if Balt has a QB coach that isn't Monken.

As for Monken taking the Balt OC job, it makes some sense. 1) Lamar Jackson's game is very similar to SBIV's game. The O worked well w/SBIV. It should work well w/Jackson. 2) the down side of being an NFL coach is the lack of security. Multiple coaches (and staff) lose their jobs every offseason. John Harbaugh is about as secure as any HC in the NFL. Meaning Monken can probably count on job security for at least 3 yrs.

Very curious what Monken's Balt salary is. Have not seen it reported. IF it is lateral or a cut then Monken wanted back to the NFL bad. Means he still has NFL HC aspirations. Or very tired of the long hrs and recruiting responsibilities of CFB OC.

BVG has not really had much opportunity to show what he can do other than in practice. He had a nice run in the G Day (?) game last yr. But what caught my eye was the laser he threw in a game this yr. Sprint out to the right and threw a rope to Kearis Jackson (?) in the back corner of the endzone. KJ made a nice catch but his foot came down on the line.

Beck starting makes more sense considering the experience and time invested in him. Also promotes the Beck/Stockton/Raiola QB progression.

BTW Bradshaw/ Chuck Noll. How soon they forget. What isn't said about the 70's Steelers is that they were the 1st steroids team. 7 or 8 of their OL/DL from those 70's teams didn't live to be 60 years old. Look it up.

    "BTW Bradshaw/ Chuck Noll."___

Dang...I wrote that and it didn't look or sound right. So, I thought for a minute and decided it was Knox. And, "pencil-whipped" myself. Lol

"Especially if Balt has a QB coach that isn't Monken."___

Idk...seems that whatever freaky chemistry there is, between Bennett and Monkin, it must be working. Bennett took one helluva leap, between 2020 and 2022. That took a lot of work by Bennett and tutoring by Monkin. Working that close together, for that long a period...It's really, no wonder, why they are at each other's throat half the time.

Reminds me of my relationship with my Dad, when he was coaching me up. Obviously we loved each other...but, one of us would eventually run out of patience...then, BAM...argument...tempers flared. Then we'd cool off and go back to work. Lol...a never ending cycle. But, we loved and respected one another beyond words. And, he made me better. If i'm reading the signs, right...That's what I think the relationship is, between Bennett and Monkin.

Both of them, also said that they were on the same wavelength. I.e., they knew what each other was thinking...they just didn't always agree. Lol...and, I get the impression, they're both hard headed.

I guess the Baltimore job does kind of make sense. I didn't realize their HC was that secure. I'm curious to see what Monkin can really do. Looking forward to watching the Raven offense, next year. Should be interesting.

As far as BVG...I haven't seen him play, much. One of the performances that stands out, is last year's Spring game. I've seen him make some of the throws, you're talking about...when he was in HS. But...I also remember him missing badly on a couple of short, easy passes. Could've been nerves...idk, which is why I want to see what he can do next month.

I WILL say this...if BVG can make all the reads and throws that Beck and Stockton can make...he is the best option at QB. IMO
