There is apparently a trend here whereby the ACCPD is overcharging these guys based on all the dropped charges,…just saying!

All of those who demonized KS and the players over recent arrests were shortsighted and obviously rushing to judgement.

What is happening is that prior problems have drawn a bullseye on the players. But the past doesn't make these guys guilty.

Its unfortunately that some of our own so called fans yelled for dismissal from the team over this nothing burger.

Sad. Just went on a trip…was going 78 on 1-16 (7o speed limit). Numerous cars flew by and disappeared. They were going about 90-95 mph. And you want to call out the players.

    HYPOCRITES!

You are wrong and far from objective. So if everybody does it it is okay? Wrong. People are driving recklessly and endangering everyone on the road. By your own admission reckless speeders were driving 20 mph over the speed limit on I-16 and Mondon was reported to be driving 35 mph over the speed limit according to the report.

Luckily for Mondon his previous record was clean. THAT enabled him to get a reprieve.

Did the police just make up "75 in a 40 and racing" when the other driver was ID'd? If going 35 mph over the speed limit on W Broad isn't reckless then nothing is reckless driving. Going 15 mph over the speed limit on W Broad is reckless.

In a court of law someone being innocent and someone being proven not guilty are not the same thing. Being innocent and having charges dropped are also not the same thing. Sounds to me that Mondon's clean record earned him a break.

I know that no one on here has ever went over the speed limit, so they are in their right to criticize those that have. I just hope they don't get vertigo sitting on that pedestal.

    Oh... down vote away

I'm with you on that, Dad. Getting smashed into doesn't hurt any less if the car's driven by a football player.

Young athletes may think they have superhuman reflexes. But the data shows they are at least as susceptible as the rest of us to things going disastrously wrong. Enforcement is in key. It's in the interest of everyone.

As for the argument that Athens police have it out for Smart's players: That just never has made sense to me. It's more likely that officers love the Big Hairy Dog than hate it.

That said, I hope Mr. Mondon learns from this, and I'm sure we all extend all the good will that he and his teammates get for being a DGD. If Kirby bases Mondon's hand slap on the eventual plea rather than the original charge, this seems like the kind of offense that won't keep him out of the Clemson game.

Far from objective? LMAO! That's you dude!

You missed the point. And you are misrepresenting how this was dismissed. He "accelerated" at a high rate. Not continuous drag racing or speeding. The report was exaggerated and the police went above the law.

And yes the ACCPD do have it out for these players. They don't need to arrest someone for these charges too. And I did not say it was ok because others do it. Are you ignorant? My point was that those on here and I bet that includes you too….speed recklessly like on i-16 and then you condemn them. Lets be more specific. Athens and other cities have people speeding in those towns as well. You tried to demonize my words for your benefit.

Get you facts straight before you misrepresent me or anyone else on here. We get it…you are anti-player and want them to go to prison I guess. See how I may have misrepresented you (then again maybe not). Don't twist my words. NONE OF THE SPEEDING IS OK! And you know that was my point. Dadgum…distortions and reckless misrepresentation is your expertise.

    BamaDawg…you get it.

"I know that no one on here has ever went over the speed limit, so they are in their right to criticize those that have. I just hope they don't get vertigo sitting on that pedestal."

    EXACTLY….

Dad20 below just misrepresented my point to fit his unobjective narrative.

Man he hates our own players while being totally self-righteous

Right you are BamaDawg, we all at one time or another exceed the posted speed limit….but only a drunk or a dumbarse speeds on Broad, Baxter, Milledge or any street in ACC…..the most heavily policed city/county in America…..hopefully our student athletes/football player learn….. especially having to endure the punishments designed for them…..dropped charges or not, the player will pay a price.

There is so much wrong with what you say only 2 words come to mind. Ignorant and biased. I didn't "misrepresent" anything. Do you know how long it takes a car to go from 0 to 75 mph? About 10 seconds. Drag racing is still racing. It is still speeding and still reckless. 10 seconds or 10 mins. Still breaking the law and unsafe ESPECIALLY on a busy road like Broad.

Not anti player at all. I am anti law breaking. No I don't drive recklessly on I-16 or anywhere else. I work hard for my money and don't want to give it away. I also don't want to kill myself or anyone else. Or mangle myself or be liable for mangling anyone else. It can happen in a split second when driving recklessly. Personally I like to do everything I can to arrive alive.

Nor do I speed. If you were to read the OCGA. Official Code of GA , you would know that, in general you will not be given a speeding ticket generated by radar UNLESS you are going 10 mph OVER the speed limit. UNLESS you are also driving recklessly. There is never really any need to drive more than 9 mph over the speed limit unless, MAYBE, it is an emergency on the way to the hospital. There are reasons there are speed limits. Those are the limits to safely operate a motor vehicle under those road conditions.

I know most of that is over your head. I didn't "demonize" anyone. But if you do **** stuff like racing, speeding and driving recklessly you should be criticized and punished. THAT IS WHY WE HAVE LAWS. To keep it safe for everyone.

Mondon was observed and caught. They also caught DJones but didn't write him up because he cooperated. He admitted they were racing and he wasn't driving as recklessly.

What got Mondon off was having a clean record (and PROBABLY because he was a UGA player). You can bet the charges were dropped because Mondon agreed to something. Like taking a defensive driver course.

At this point the UGA football team leads the country in arrests for '24 and has the lowest reported graduation rate (41%) of all the Power Five Conference schools. Not exactly the goals that the U of GA should be striving for. Just think what it would be if EVERYBODY turned a blind eye to whatever the football players did like you and many here want to do.

I have said it before, it may be that CKS is telling the ACCPD to arrest players that break the law. Let the PD be the bad guys. Maybe then they'll get the message before anyone else gets killed. They are certainly not getting the message from CKS.

Good news. Hope he learned a valuable lesson. Handled like it should have been. Like if it were me or you, if you ask me. He had no priors. Move on.
