Everything Kirby Smart said as Georgia football head coach defends his comments about fans
ATHENS — Georgia coach Kirby Smart did not back down from the comments he made about UGA fans on Saturday.
Comments
"But that Smart spent more time talking about Georgia fan support than this week’s opponent — Mississippi State — says a good bit about the state of the Georgia program."_____MG
Or....it says a lot about Miss St and where they stand in the SEC pecking order. I imagine, Kirby is more worried about future Home Games than Miss. State.
In fact....he's probably more worried about scrimmaging the scout team in practice this week, than Miss State, Saturday. UGA's Scout team has more talent and experience than Miss State's entire roster. Lol
As far as his comments on UGA Fans....I'm sure most Fans would agree with him. People have to remember....Kirby Smart isn't JUST the UGA Head Football Coach. He's also a South Georgia boy, with all that comes with it....obsessed with Georgia Football from from Tennessee to Florida.
Kirby wants the same thing, the fans want....because, he's one of us. If he says we need to get louder….we need to get louder. LSU and A&M have reaped the benefits of a loud stadium for years. So much so....that it's one of the first things other coaches reference when they play those teams.
Why not seek that advantage for the Dawgs?. They may have to redesign some of the stadium, in order to enhance the crowd noise. Which requires money. I wondering that's Kirby's opening Salvo in lobbying for Stadium enhancements....or, a new stadium. Lol
Kirby's right. I was at the game. I've been to many Auburn games in Sanford stadium and that was the most subdued crowd I have ever seen against Auburn.
crowd was subdued because of the aftermath of a devastating hurricane.
CKS said nothing wrong or disrespectful. He always talks about crowd participation. Been talking about it since he arrived as head coach. Maybe we're a little spoiled from all the winning. I don't know why some fans are mad. Smh
I feel CKS should uniderstand why he is catching grief from the media and normal people in the state who have suffered from the storm. To be honest he’s lucky that people showed up for the game. He should hop in his red Ford pickup and drive down highway 15. He would probably feel bad about his comments then
Yep. I thought about that also. I'm sure Helena took a lot of excitement and hooray out of the fans, me being one of them, who made it to the game. There was and still is a lot going on with family lives right now, including mine . I pray for those who lost a lot more than me and hope that some semblance of normalcy will come soon. I saw homes and cars crushed by trees just driving down the road. I saw another guy just sitting outside in front of his crushed house looking helpless. People needed help everywhere. It was bad. Hey I still have family members without power and staying in hotels. I was lucky to get power back 4 days later. But I don't have a problem with CKS for saying what he said. It's his observation.
I ageee the hurricane was devastating (I’m aSouth Georgia guy) and I’m sure Kirby, like the rest of us are concerned with the impact of our fellow Georgians. He and the UGA teams do many things to support great causes (i.e., Camp Sunshine).
However, the game was a sellout and packed with GA fans. If they couldn’t cheer due to concerns about the hurricane victims, why not donate you tickets to a Boys/Girls club and listen to the game while working to gather supplies for those in need.?
Not on my high horse, but I’ve been in Sanford stadium when the ground shook and the fans caused numerous false starts by the visiting team. Kirby is asking us fans to make every home game that way. Texas A&M, Auburn and other fans do that consistently, and all Kirby is asking is for us to do the same.
Just my opinion, so feel free to disagree.
You see my 'handle' on DN, IMO the crowd looked good up here!! I dig tho, we all want to see some creative O
I'm used to crap saturday pigskin lol Sanford looked great
Kirby forgets the stadium now sells alcohol. Sloppy drunk fans are not as loud as sober high on the football game fans.
@Dogs70 Does Kirby care about all the ppl who are dealing with a natural disaster? He didn’t mention it. All he did was rip ppl who are the reason he & his family live in luxury. Many who didn’t have power all week & were understandably exhausted. Also, perhaps they needed a few hours of distraction?
Yeah, we had a good run of keeping drunk fans out of Sanford. Had to end sometime.
🙄
IMO...I don't think Kirby was talking about, just that one game vs Auburn. I think, he wants that place rockin' whenever a rival enters the house. That's not just "crowd noise"....it's also stadium acoustics. He may be angling for Stadium Upgrades or something. Let the man work.
He wouldn't be the Coach he is....if he didn't focus on the details. Hell....it's football season. I'd be surprised if he even knew we had a storm. Lol
"Georgia’s crowd certainly had some effect on Auburn’s false starts, but Georgia coach Kirby Smart did not like the atmosphere in Sanford Stadium. Numerous Georgia fans left the Auburn game very early when it was still within reach for the Tigers."_____UGAWIRE
Based on what the UGAWIRE wrote....I'd say Kirby is dealing with the same thing Saban had to deal with....."Fan Complacency".
Always have and always will love the Dawgs, but let’s be honest. Many fans knew the players would be in a good mood after the bounce back win. We were worried about getting home before they got on the road. (That’s a joke but based on reality).
I've been to a lot of Georgia/Auburn games at Jordan/Hare and a lot at Sanford Stadium. That was a very subdued crowd for an SEC game and especially a Georgia/Auburn matchup. It makes you wonder if there's a general malaise over the whole population after a major event like Helene. I think we care about each other more than anyone realizes. GO DAWGS
