The days of just showing up and winning in CFB are over for most teams that play big boy football. The UGA offense has to execute at a high level if it expects to be championship caliber. Same with the defense. We saw the D do it for much of the game on Saturday.
Your QB suffers when 1) the OL is not up to the standard and has injuries. 2) you are down to 3 undersized RB's due to injury and transfer. 3) you are relegated to 3* transfer WR's(or low 4*)(Humphreys, RaThomas, MJackson, DLovett, CYoung) because you can't recruit high 4* WR's. 4) You have 2 of your top 5 WR's kicked off the team. 5) You lose your security blanket, cheat code (BB's). 6) your QB gets roughed up and pressured because of 1-5. Time to improve and execute.
UGA (OL, DL, DB's, LB's especially) has to bring some urgency. WR's have to work on catching the ball. QB has to work on timing and not staring down his intended target. Young guys need to develop and improve. Cannot turn the ball over and win.
As bad as the O played SOMEHOW UGA went into TX and beat the #1 ranked team by 2 TD's. IF UGA can EVER clean up the below standard play UGA will be a tough out.
Saw something interesting in an NFL game yesterday. Forgot which game (Redzone) but TBrady was the announcer. The QB took the spread snap and immediately threw out to the sideline WR screen as fast as he could. Brady commented because, with the hot potato pass, the QB didn't use the laces on the ball. Then I see CBeck play action before he gets the ball out on a WR screen. That gives the DB's covering the WR screen time to read the play and attack the ball. Seems to me you'd want to get the ball out as quick as you can.
EVERYBODY on the offensive side of the ball needs to be better, and this especially includes the offensive line and the running game. Etienne has been about the only consistently good part of the running game. (He's played a strong role in the passing game as well.) Beck needs to be better, but I don't think he's played as bad as many of us (myself included) think. We need to get our identity as an offense straight, get in a good rhythm (get and keep people healthy!), and I think we'll be fine.
The pass to Luckie that resulted in an interception was way overthrown.
Yep, I have talked endlessly about how we are not getting high end WRs and I don't think it gets enough attention. Sure, when a QB overthrows a ball or misses a wide open receiver it's pretty obvious, but what about every other missed pass. It's easy to say "oh, that throw was a little behind him which is why it went through his hands" but big time receivers MAKE that play and it makes the QB look many times better because now it's a big completion instead of a miss and possibly an end of drive. If a QB has no one to throw to because the receivers aren't fast/quick enough to get away, how is that the QB's fault.
We need to fix this. For 2025: If Oregon can grab 4th best who is in all the way in Tampa who is also going to compete with the Top WR in the country at Oregon, why can't we get ONE of them? Heck, crappy Florida State has a 4 star out of Alpharetta and Tenn has a 4 star out of Atlanta.
For 2024, we missed out these local/semi-local recruits that went out of State (in order of ranking, State : Committed to):- #1 Florida : Ohio State- #4 Florida : Clemson- #9 Georgia : Tenn- #15 South Carolina : Tenn- #21 Georgia : Miami- #24 [Our best (Nitro Tuggle?) from Indiana]- #33 Tennessee : Bama- #38 Florida : Texas A&M- #42 Alabama : Miss State- #46 Florida : West Virginia
