Why Ohio State was able to beat out Georgia to land star safety Caleb Downs
ATLANTA — Ohio State, like Georgia, was very familiar with talented safety Caleb Downs.

Indeed, it was that ole god named Denaro that whispered into Calebs ear that lead him first to Bama and then to Bucknut country. Indeed, Caleb is a blessed young man with GOD given talents and I wish him well…..though I'm rooting for The Mighty Virgin…Caleb has another year before ole Denaro leads him to the fertile promised land of the NFL……Indeed, Caleb's greatest accomplishment is to place Hoschton on the map like Chateau Elan brought notice to Braselton.
He had relationships with people at both OSU and UGA. He chose the school that offered more cash. Nothing wrong with that; just be honest!
No mention of the NIL $ ?
No UGA news? Not sure I really care what Downs has done to us in the past or what he is doing to other teams today.
Thank you, @GtheGreek ...
A few points:
1) I'm surprised someone who writes for a UGA-centric site would say "It’s hard to argue with the choice Downs made"
2) How can you completely ignore the obvious NIL influence?
3) And I care why about someone not committed to the G?
I wonder sometimes... 🫤
Happy Sunday, all!
”He picked Ohio State on Jan. 20, with Ryan Day believing Downs' prior relationships with Ohio State players were a big reason why he landed in Columbus, Ohio.”
and I bet Ryan Day said that with a straight face!!
Caleb, God had nothing to do with your decision!! So please have a little more respect for our lord and stop throwing his name around when your decision was solely based on the Almighty $$!!
If "God" had guided you to let's say a none power 5 program with little or no NIL would you have listened?
So please just be a man and say OSU offered more $$!! Nothing wrong with that son! We all work for more money...
I wish there was a way to amplify a “like”… it’s a 10 on this one, @PhillyDawg !!! 👏
Kid sidestepped any money talk like it was pre NIL .😂
I agree with all of these posts below. I’m sure his comments are true, but the final decision was likely made over NIL$$$ and all the other stuff about “coaches”, “player relationships”, etc is all window dressing and malarkey. Good luck Caleb and Go Dawgs and ND!!!
$$$$
Had nothing to do with Gods plan..was simlpy more $$$$ offered by osu..nothing more
I agree with Kudzu, wish I could amplify my up vote by 10. Great comment!
What are the odds he gave 10% of his NIL money to the Lord. My guess is slim to none and slim has left town.
Agree with most everything said below. Interestingly, there are only two paragraphs in this whole article that speak to the “why” that the headline promises. Unfortunately, that why is bunkum.
