Houston/fla basketball game was atrocious

I watched that dumb NC basketball game last night and couldn't believe what I was seeing. I have never seen so many turnovers, 3-point bricks, and missed layups in a game before. And it wasn't because of great defense, it was just sloppy basketball. Run down the court, pass it once or twice, throw up an off-balanced 3-pointer with 15 seconds on the shot clock, run back to defend as the shot bounces off the rim. Terrible.

I admit I haven't watched basketball in a long time, but I was shocked at how bad both teams looked. Just terrible fundamentals, no ball control, everyone wants to make the 3-pointer.

It was close and, ergo, exciting. at least for me. What I can't get is the incredible whining on social media about the officiating. I would guess that most of it came from folks who have never refed a game in their lives. One of the best lines was from Jay Williams who said something like the team that adjusted best to the officiating won the game. And it wasn't just the UF vs UJ game. It seemed incessant throughout the tourney. And in the women's tourney as well. Pathetic.

Well I thought that the officiating was sub par, but the game was ok. What was perplexing to me was the final play for Houston! You have got to create a decent shot or allow an Opportunity for a scorer to make a play!!! WTH happened!!!

All in all I enjoyed the tournament. I actually thought Duke was the best team overall, but they kinda choked against Houston. The SEC represented well though! I feel like the SEC had 4 maybe 5 teams with a decent chance to win it all.

I think the Hoston player felt the time/game pressure and lost his concentration. I don't know if the play was even designed for him but he jumped up for a shot after dribbling and somehow lost the ball and couldn't' pick it back up or it would have been a double dribble. Tough break for UG/good break for UF.

yeah, I hated to see it end like that! You could see the anguish in the player bc he knew he couldn’t go after the ball again! Just very unfortunate and a tough break for him. Sports can be extremely elating and at times utterly heartbreaking! Those are the breaks, but I guess that’s one of the reasons we love competitive sports so much!

actually the play was there. UH player tried to be a hero and made up his mind (in the heat of battle) that he was going to shoot the game winning three as the ball was coming to him thinking that he was open. If he catches the ball and turns and sees Clayton coming at him all he had to do was pump fake and easy drive to the basket. UH coach said after game that 2 points was fine. Instead Uh player catches pass and immediately starts jump shot motion and he no where to go when Clayton jumps at him.

I wonder if Mrs. Golden proud of Todd. His scandal sure went dark quick, no mention of it after the first couple weeks of the season. Then he wins the natty. Reminds me of Michigan football.

or it could have been a case of "nothing to see here". The alleged victims apparently haven't followed up with anything in the legal system. Seems a dead issue here in the Gainesville area. Haven't seen or heard anything in a long while.

I don't watch enough basketball to have an opinion on the refs, however the overall gameplay was terrible. Seems like the goal is to just run down and throw up a 3 pointer as quickly as possible. No set plays in the paint. No clock management. Nobody crashes the boards after a shot. I was amazed at how many times the shooting team would run back on defense as the ball was in the air…like they assumed it would go in. Offensive rebounds are almost non-existent. the game has changed…and not in a good way.

Yeah, I'm not that big of a basketball fan anymore. I was a Sun's fan in the 70's when I lived out West. Epic battles with the Sonics. That was fun.

That said, I'm not a big fan of the three. Give me a drive to the basket any day. Battle under the boards for a rebound? Yes.

They got the three point rule wrong. Reward a drive to the basket. That's exciting and worth 3 points. A long-range shot goes in? Boring. That should be worth 2 points.

Way too many sloppy passes and airballs. They really need to slow it down, focus on the basics, and stop forcing those wild 3s.

I understand what you mean. For purpose, it’s kind of reminiscent of Bama playing BYU in the tournament. They shot a ton of 3’s and somehow hit almost 50%. Nobody could beat them when they are shooting like that, nobody!

But that type of play isn’t sustainable in a tournament, no team can keep that up throughout a tournament. You can’t depend on that day in and out. You gotta be able to fall back on talent and fundamentals to keep your head above water and have a chance to win in the Dance. Don’t get me wrong, that shooting was ridiculous and a pure joy to watch, but you can’t win a championship if you rely on being able to shoot that well behind the arc. One bad day does you in.
