I'll believe it when I see it. Bobo has made little real meaningful use of our TE room. That must change if these guys are SO good.
Hard to imagine anyone with a better LB room. Go Dawgs!
@MontanaDawg
Oscar Delp and Lawson Luckie are undersized (240 lbs) TEs who lack the speed, quickness, lateral movement, change of direction or strength to separate from defenders. It would have taken elite play at the other skill positions, WR and/or RB, to draw the linebackers and safeties in order for Delp and Luckie to get the mismatches underneath that they needed to be productive. And even if that happens, getting the ball to the WRs and RBs would have made more sense than getting the ball to Delp and Luckie anyway. Also, it is fascinating how everyone scapegoats Bobo when UGA had the #1 scoring offense in the country 2 years ago when Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey - two guys who had 1000 yard seasons in the NFL as rookies - were healthy, plus Daijun Edwards and Kendall Milton were better than anything UGA had at RB in 2024. Todd Monken had those two plus AD Mitchell (2nd round pick), Darnell Washington (a guy who has the strength and speed to separate from defenses and the size to block DLs instead of just LBs and safeties like Delp and Luckie, yet he only went in the 3rd), George Pickens (2nd round), James Cook (2nd round) and Kenny McIntosh (1300 yards rushing and receiving). Give Monken an entire year with Nate Frazier (straight line runner with no breakaway speed) and Arian Smith (to be fair, while he was a disaster as the 1st option in the offense he could be pretty effective as a 4th option in a limited role, which is what the Jets are counting on) plus the below average play at OT and he wouldn't have been any better. How do we know this? From the 2020 season when Monken's offense couldn't even win the SEC East for UGA.
If it were possible to take average players like Delp and Luckie and scheme them into All-Americans everyone would do it.
That was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the heading. Go Dawgs!
Montana is correct, Delp and Luckie are average as grits, but there are a couple of freshmen tight ends that look to be very good, but they will not be schemed into the main offense in big games. Kirby will be happy to slug along because they are the upper classmen no matter how average, and he will get through the regular season this way, but will not go deep into playoffs without some players stepping up to be much more dynamic than 2024.
I'm looking forward to Williams getting solid as a college player. He's a potential Washington in the making. He had a touchdown pass hit him in the hands during the spring "game" and he didn't haul it in. Prefreshman jitters I hope. The guy's huge, strong and fast. He overwhelmed his high school opponents and likely will be outstanding at UGA with some good coaching…happy and safe 4th to all my brother and sister Dawg fans.
Go Dawgs!
Sounds like Mitch should replace Kirby. Seems to know it all.
You don't need to have BB's at TE to win a championship. Who were MI and OSU's TE's?
Delp and Luckie can be effective at TE if UGA gets more from the wr's and rb's. OL has to return to form and GS has to prove he can throw accurately and protect the ball.
maybe not at TE but it’s good to have a pass catcher who is undeniable (which Bowers certainly was)…Jeremiah Smith for Ohio fits that bill.
Michigan won bc their defense was really good.
Winning football is winning the LOS as you mentioned.
