First off @UGADad20 a couple of very well stated posts. I love when a fan can support his (or her) position with relevant stats, data and roster make-up. Whether I agree or have a differing opinion…Kudos.
Secondly, the only thing I will say about your Clemgoober player recruiting rankings being on par with UGa (or Bama or OhSt for that matter), we will have to agree t totally disagree there. UGa has pretty much averaged 93-94 per player average for most of CKS's tenure. In that same time frame team Dabo has been annually in the 90 to 91 average. Stack that up over 10 years and that is a significant difference from a depth perspective…imho.
Thirdly, that DW24 comment wins post of the month! Hilarious…
Clemson does have some really good players this year—-guess where they come from—I'll bet 85% percent of their starting 22 come from the state of Georgia.
You made me curious with the 85% comment so took a look at the last 5 recruiting classes including this year (3 from Georgia currently) . Appears the current roster consisting of 2025-2024-2023 and 2022 class recruits total around 25 players from the peach state more or less. Add in a few redshirt possibilities from 2021 from the 5 they recruited and signed that year and they could have as many as 30 players from Georgia's back yard. I'm surprised, would have thought that number would have easily surpassed 50% of the team talent. I don't know but I would bet that percentile of Georgia state players was higher pre-Kirby.
You bring up a good point about recruiting classes. I didn't go back 10 years or look at total player ratings. "their per recruit ratings are on par with UGA" is a misstatement on my part. I was referring to the handful of their top recruits in each cycle and not their total classes. "Clemson's weakness is depth" was meant to address the difference in class size and overall class quality. But I stand corrected.
BTW I wasn't calling you (exclusively) out for "ClemgooberU ahead of UGA? Now that's funny right there…" You were just the top of the comment stack of a number of seemingly uninformed anti-Clemson comments that were beneath you.
I don't like seeing Clemson taking good players out of GA. Their fan base still obnoxiously overestimates their relevance in CFB the last 5 years or so. However, this year they have their best team. That is why this year is so important to them. They are at a true crossroads.
I would hate to see them added to the SEC. They really bring nothing to the SEC (small market team, small national following). But them joining the SEC would aid them in recruiting the State of GA. It would also pay them more revenue (ACC vs SEC) which increases their NIL and facilities budget.
Like UGA, Clemson is not throwing NIL money around like USCw, OSU or TX. They will still be forced to pay up for a good QB and WR's if they want to remain competitive. The question is, if they remain in the ACC and don't win some playoff games, who will want to go there?
Personally, I think Swinney "uses" religion as his differentiating niche as a main hook in his recruiting spiel. Shameful. Unfortunately for him (and everyone?) religion does not trump money these days.
@kasey according to ESPN Peter Woods is 6'3" 315 lbs. Same size as Jalen Carter.
247 has him listed at 6’2. I’ve also read his wingspan is a little smaller. I only know this bc the former head of UGA recruiting mentioned this is part of the reason we didn’t recruit him harder initially. He made that decision look silly last year. Remains to be seen how high he will go in the draft next year as it could have a bunch of QBs go early.
Woods is bigger than Aaron Donald so we know he is big enough to play DT especially at the CFB level. When he makes All American this year and is drafted in the 1st rd of the '26 draft we'll both know why your source is the FORMER head of UGA recruiting.
i never said he wouldn’t go first round. Said I doubted he would go high if his measurables are to be believed.
And the guy who was the FORMER director was actually stumping for him and telling Kirby to take him. He was making fun of staff for passing on him.
