Alabama suffers key injury, Marshall readies for Georgia, Tennessee names starting QB

ATHENS â Georgia coach Kirby Smart is sure to stay focused on his team, but thereâs plenty of news coming out about the Bulldogsâ upcoming opponents

Did not realize Haynes transferred to Michigan.
Kirby really "missed out on the Haynes recruitment"....huh? Lol. What a knucklehead.
Justice Haynes could've been a "Legacy Demigod" in Athens, with a bead on the NFL. Instead...? He settled....imo. And, nobody will know his name.
He's one of the first Georgians to become a victim of NIL Greed....imo. I hope it was "greed", anyway. That would almost be, understandable, as opposed to not recognizing the opportunity offered by The Dawgs.
It's an unfortunate situation. He may have intended to transfer to UGA. But, where would he fit in, now?.
Wow! Not sure those comments are not just a tad bit biased. You come off sounding quite **** hurt.
"Demigod"? Really? No he would've been just another player working hard for the reward of playing time. Just like he did at AL and would have this year in the '25 UGA RB room.
With all the injuries in '24, UGA certainly could've used him. Are you implying that former 5* Haynes would be lost in the '25 UGA RB room? Who would he be behind? Freshman Walker? IL transfer McCray? He of the 4.7 ypc and 25 rec in 4 seasons? Oft injured coming off turf toe RRob? 5 ypc Nate Frazier?
Haynes still has 2 years of eligibility remaining. He will have plenty of time to move up into prime draft position. He averaged 6 ypc over his 2 years at AL. Frazier and ETN both averaged 5 ypc last season. Haynes also had more receptions in '24 than Frazier in fewer games with fewer touches. .
It is probably safe to say, knowing what we now know about UGA's NIL "strategy", that Haynes was offered more NIL to go to AL (and probably MI) than what he was offered to go to UGA. Would've loved to have seen what his critics would've done had someone offered them a few hundred thousand dollars more when they were 18. SMH.
The kid has a chance to break out this year at MI. I am not sure his odds for breaking out this season aren't better than anybody in the '25 UGA RB room. Especially when you consider that MI seems to have Joe Moore award contending OL's every year. Will be very interesting to watch it all play out this season.
One additional note on the new TN QB Aguilar. When his numbers are presented over 2 years they look pretty impressive. But he had a strong 1st year at App St and a very much less impressive 2nd season at App St. His INT's went way up in '24, his passing yards went down 700 yards in '24 from '23 and his completion percentage dropped 8% from '23 to '24.
agree with you about Justice. Bunch of unnecessary sour grapes from the fanbase about him. He made his decision and it’s best to just let it go.
Aguilar should be fine in that simple Tennessee offense, but they are hurting at WR and if they can’t run the ball it’s gonna be a long season on Rocky Top.
"Legacy Demigod".…not just "Demigod". You know what I'm saying..."don't front",...as the kids would say. Lol
Last year.....He would've punched his ticket...."Last year". UGA doesn't need him, anymore....and, apparently, neither does Bama. Else why would he transfer to the "Titanic". Lol....Michigan is done, for a while...imo.
The Wolverines are currently on the same level as Florida, Auburn, Tennessee and Clemson....Not, Bama, Uga, Texas and OSU.
If I was a great back...or a good back...looking for an NFL ticket...I wouldn't transfer to the Mafia of CFB. How much National exposure can he get, from a Program on Probation & everybody's ****-list?. I'm just sayin'...Lol....where's the bias?
@UGADad20 ; @Kasey
Let me be clear. I would love to see Haynes "set the world on fire", wherever he plays. Afterall....he's a Georgia Boy.…which automatically makes me a fan.
But, I thought at the time, that too much was being made about the fact he picked Bama over UGA. He was being hyped as if….he was the second coming or something....and, he wasn't.
It was being touted as a big FAIL on the part of the Bulldog recruiting staff and blamed on NIL. I'm just pointing out….It wasn't. And if it was....No big deal. Lol...just a friendly reminder, is all.
well he’s a legacy and his father is a part of one of Mark Richt’s most iconic wins. He’s a great player and we were in on him his whole playing career. He certainly would’ve been helpful two seasons ago when we lost all those guys to injury and last year to help whenever ETN was dinged up.
Yep...it's a shame that scenario never materialized. I DO blame NIL for that and other issues regarding legacies around CFB....Lol. Sue me....but, I think it's great to have a Son or Grandson follow in the ole family footsteps. It's about "connection" with the fanbase.
Obviously, the Mannings don't share that philosophy. Lol...."Everybody go your own way" is another way to go. Of course.…QB's are a little different in that respect. There's only one per team...per year.
i think ultimately Justice wanted to do his own thing…and that ok. He’s been rewarded for that choice. If you’re gonna blame NIL you’re gonna have to also blame these media companies that fork out billions of dollars yearly to put these games on and the NCAA felt like the players couldn’t get a taste.
Our coaches and our players need to get as much of a training opportunity as they can from this game. We Need to get as clear picture as possible on areas that need continued or extra work. Sounds like Marshall will provide a good training game. They sound anxious to play our Dawgs and that’s a good thing.
To me 99% of the blame for NIL rests squarely on the feet dragging NCAA. They had multiple opportunities to fix it years before but as the usual way they operate they waited till it got out of hand. To the extent that it is now and will for ever more be, NIL changed the face of CFB forever.
It’s getting really hard to get very excited about the recruiting process as now in many if not most cases it’s not about players wanting to be with a team out of loyalty but which team ponies up the most $$ Its not like that for every player or maybe at this point a majority of players. But the pendulum is swinging in that direction. And who can honestly blame them ? I sure can’t. If a team was waving millions of $$ at me I’d probably go there to !!
So now from a loyalty standpoint it really boils down to pretty much two types of players. The guy that has dreamed all his life of being a Dawg ( even he is gonna want Some NIL $$) and/or the guy that thinks UGA can prep him better for the NFL. I guess there’s a third one but we Sure don’t want to go down that path !! The guy that no one else would take him, I don’t see KS wanting a player like that.
So the rest are for sale. Then you have the TP to deal with. So it’s gonna be harder for me to have a “ favorite player or players “ part of watching the Dawgs. But been a fan for to long to just stop watching. NIL would have eventually came to CFB anyway, but if the NCAA would’ve offered a Nice and uniform CFB wide stipend it could have been delayed for many years. And because all the players would be getting the same amount of $$ it’d make room for a better sense of loyalty. I don’t know the answers it is what it is. Semipro football.
yes the ncaa was always reactive and never proactive. If they had come up with some common sense measures…cut of personalized jerseys, make $ at autograph signings, local sponsorships arranged by player themselves, this free for all could’ve been avoided. Same with the portal…if they had done one free transfer 20 years ago I think everyone would’ve been fine with that.
These lack of measures coupled with escalating coach salaries and the arms race of facilities along with playoff expansion helped bring on this wild Wild West we are currently in.
I personally believe that the CFB Power Brokers....including the NCAA and Conference Presidents.…sold out CFB a long time ago. It's been a massive money grab by Coaches, Administrators, Entertainment, Politicians, Judges, etal..
They ALL got rich…Now, they're scraping their substantial plates onto the Player's table....just before the bubble bursts. Which is coming...imo.
There was no holding NIL back with what the schools and coaches were/are making from televising the games. The NCAA tried to slow roll it but that cat is out of the bag. Now we have NFL Jr. With all its faults and a constant erosion of college sports traditions.
As someone who has lost interest in most pro sports, college sports was just closer to pure sports competition and not as close to "entertainment". The evolution of sports in the country is leading to it appeal and rating decline.
@navydawg "But if he had come to UGA just to please his father and Dawgs fans but his heart wasn’t really in it, it probably would’ve been bad for him." If your heart isn't into playing RB at any time, any where you will take a beating like you have never seen. RB is probably the position that requires the most toughness in football. It is attack or be killed. You better have heightened urgency, awareness and determination every time the ball is snapped. I think Haynes has that regardless of what team he plays for. He has to. But he is also the son of a successful professional athlete. They typically live a life of privilege. Makes them less hungry? It seems to me that CKS does not recruit/sign as many son's of NFL players. And probably the reason he has hired Mike Bobo and Will Muschamp but not Hines Ward.
In Haynes case it was probably a combination of things. He had probably been to UGA a million times. So the "excitement" factor was probably small to go to UGA. Playing for Saban was probably an attraction as well as seeing someplace new/getting away from home. He was the son of a professional player who had a relatively short pro career. The pro mindset is to go where you can maximize your earnings. I think that is what Haynes did. RB have the shortest careers in the NFL.
Didn't know that "Justice" Haynes transferred to Michigan. That guy, son or UGA super alumnus Verron Haynes of Hobnail Boot fame, forsook the Georgia Bulldogs with his buddy after lapping up all the recruiting bling and signed with our biggest rival. He never really lived up to the big expectations that his recruiting stars brought him. He may have gotten some shekels from transferring to Michigan, but who wants to go play in the Tundra after growing up in the moderate weather of the South? So I look at him and his fate as bad karma at this point. He wil never live up to the glorious fame of his father.
