Georgia wants to be âsmartâ with how it uses Gunner Stockton in rushing offense

Gotta get Frazier going. As much as he ran the ball Saturday, I thought he had more yards than he actually did. Still not impressed with the O line considering the level of competition Georgia played Saturday.
Are there any official reports on Green and Gaston injuries? I have looked and not seen anything.
"When it presents itself" will be much less against SEC defenses, but I think Gunner will work to perfect his craft. He fakes and pulls very well, he will have to judge when to take off quicker against real defenses.
Gunner’s been loyal to the G but I think you can’t deny Pug12’s talent and natural throwing motion. If Gunner don’t throw as well you think they’ll give Pugs a shot? I think that’s something to worth keeping an eye on.
3rd down conversions and defense containment on the outside is a few of my concerns. Young team so KS will get them up to speed. I laughed at his comment on the Marshall TD that the replacements weren’t playing up to Georgia standards.
A lot of rookie or new-to-the-team QBs played this weekend…and the one that impressed me the most was Aguilar for the Vols.
Several of the QBs ran as much as they threw the ball (like Stockton). You can get away with this against some opponents, but I don't think it should be your method of operation. There's simply too much risk, and in Georgia's case, we've got too many good RBs that should be handling the running most of the time.
Haynes King failed to win the starting job in 3 years at Texas A&M and is now a 6th year senior - this is mercifully the last year for pandemic guys like him - and is now at a place where going 8-5 is considered a successful season in Georgia Tech. (Seriously, for all the hype, Tech went 7-6 in 2023 and 2024). Auburn will have a winning season this year only because they landed an easy SEC schedule (they avoid Texas, Ole Miss, Tennessee, South Carolina and Florida but do get Kentucky and Missouri at home plus Vanderbilt) so 8 wins is the max for that program too.
That is all that having a guy who isn't as fast as a WR or DB and can't run over people and break tackles like a power back will get you. To be a true dual threat QB good enough to win games for your team against superior defenses that you see in the SEC and playoff, you need to be good enough to start in the SEC at another position. If Gunner Stockton isn't quick and fast enough to outrun safeties like Nick Marshall at Auburn in 2013 (who initially came to UGA as a DB) or strong enough to break tackles and level linebackers like Tim Tebow at Florida then the conversation really does need to shift to whether Stockton can be a 4000 yard passer at about 65% completions with a 3 to 1 TD/INT ratio because that is the only way that he is going to win a national title at UGA.
hope the coaches and Mr Stockton understand that QB runs are not a substitute for waiting for passing plays to develop and pregression checkdowns…
Beach they're only an option for TD's
God you're horrible at this
“Haynes King ran for 156 yards and 3 touchdowns in a win over Colorado.”
King is tougher than a 2 dollar steak, but if he has to do what he did against Colorado for the remainder of the season, I can’t imagine him being able to stay healthy. They established the run early, but didn’t seem to trust him to throw it in play-action. Gunner can run and throw!
GO DAWGS!
Oline still can't block. Watch numerous guys get manhandled by nobodies. It's on kirby. He was great with monken, but still just a great recruiter and d coordinator. This season will hurt him, he stuck with bobo and searls. Sorry guys.
I’m with David 1 - O-line must get better, much better.
the starters played three series together
@jdatl3 @JBMDawg46 I have a comment then a question open to anyone. I agree I was disappointed with the lack of push on run plays. If it hadn’t been for Gunner’s escape ability he’d have got sacked At Least twice and he took a wicked hit just as he released the ball on one pass play. The O Line needs to get Much better and Quick !!
Now my question, setting aside coaching for a moment then back to it. Considering the recent injuries is there enough Quality Talent to have a successful run on our schedule of games ?
If you answer Yes there Is enough talent then here’s my question. Why can’t Searls coach these guys up ? He’s been in football a long, long time. Is it a matter of he doesn’t know How to adapt to modern CFB ? Or is it he has His way and simply refuses to bend ? I just don’t understand how the O Line can be so stagnant.
Now another comment and I might get rotten vegetables and some rocks to thrown at me. But of the two Searls is more of a liability than Bobo. Stop and think if we had a Truly dominant O Line, I mean True Man handlers and Consistent at that. Think on it now.
If we had that in an O Line even Bobo’s 10 straight runs up the middle he tends to get into would work to some extent because you’d have an O Line blowing defenders off the line of scrimmage And creating Big holes for RBs. On pass protection Gunner would have enough time to do his nails then throw the ball lol !! The O Line is Vastly important to the success of the offense. It’s absolutely critical. This was game 1 so I’m Far from being in panic mode. But I was not very impressed with their play this Sat. I will say this and it’s a Very poor excuse and it might just be me, but Marshall seemed to have some excellent size on their Defensive front. But that’s making excuses even if they did.
Let’s Hope that we see some Big improvement on the O Line before Knoxville. Go Dawgs !!
