There were more than a few 4 star QBs this year including one from Georgia, Travis Burgess, the #85 overall player, who is going to UNC because Georgia put all their eggs in the Jared Curtis basket and didn't make him an offer. Even if you buy the idea that UGA signed 2 QBs last year, have a couple of guys in the pipeline that they like and could afford to take a big swing and miss, the reality is that Burgess is a higher rated than any QB currently on UGA's current roster (Stockton #110, Montgomery #180, Puglisi #143) and as a starting basketball player (G/F) for a state AAAAAAA champion he has the height (6'5") and actual dual threat ability that no UGA QB has had since D'Wan Mathis (a much lower rated prospect from a state where the high school football scene isn't nearly as competitive).
Not hyping a particular player by the way. It is just amazing that a top 100 recruit who plays QB was right there at Grayson - who has sent several players to UGA - and Georgia didn't even offer him a scholarship.
Calicut's legal issues are being resolved and he is a take and be in the class almost without doubt now. Very much different than Cloud's situation. He will either sign tomorrow or more likely during the second signing time in February. It has already been determined now that Cloud will not be in the class and with his recruiting rankings having already dropped due to his injury status, will have negligible effect on rankings.
Believe Sentell mentioned on recent podcast that Wade Register, the #1 punter in the nation, will likely be in class without a signing announcement by UGA - similar to Daniel Okonkwo the DB that signed with us last year - had an impressive interception in end zone vs. Charlotte - Awesome to think that we are bringing in Kohl's Kicking nationally ranked #1 placekicker (Zureikat) and #1 punter (Register)!!!
Remember a similar type RB that signed with us having issues growing up that turned out really well for us. He turned his life around and became a DGD - Brian Herrien.
Lol Eastman
Maybe Ty can transfer or walk on. Lamar just has a rep that he needs to correct and fly right.
He's running out of chances.
Congrats, you’ve won Post of the Day honors…trophy is on order..,
You’re very right. Herrien was a great player and DGD. Yeah maybe Kirby will iron out any issues. I’m for second chances.
@RomeDawg288 Hey your putting out some info. that I wasn’t aware of and some I missed !! Course an old goat like me misses Allot !! 🤣 But seriously I appreciate it !! And the info. your giving is positive stuff that’s uplifting !! Go Dawgs !!
Hey Dawgs fans about this being tied with the lowest class in Kirby’s tenure. Well it’s Still a top 5 class. And it’s one thing to recruit them it’s Another to Develop them !!
Kirby took a chance on 3star QB that’s right QB Ladd McConkey from little Chatsworth which is much like Rabun County Gunner’s school. And look what he and coaching staff did with Both !! Now it might sound like I’m poking fun at those two HS because of their size. Wrong !! They take fierce pride in their sports in particular football.
Kirby went to a basketball game to see Ladd and offered him right after. He was playing QB in their football program. So some of our opponents might use more NIL and “ you’ll play before the season even starts “ Lol to reel these guys in but the number of Dawgs AND in high rounds in the NFL draft clearly shows that development is great playing for Kirby !! I’m not really fretting about it being #5 . Besides that I bet Kirby nets some good ones out of the TP that can also be developed. So thankful for the Branch Brothers and Noah Thomas just to name a few. !!
🤣
@randomsportsfan..Funny, i dont remember Burgess even coming close to being listed in the top 5 in total passing yards in Georgia HS football history or for total passing TD's, or total TD's..Unlike 1 QB already on the roster at UGA who has. Being #1 in the latter 2 categories for passing TD's, and total TD's, and top 3 all time in passing yards..i'd rather have a proven winner that is already in Athens. You can make the argument Gunner didn't play top teams in HS in a lower classification, which may be true. But, none of the top 3 did, Trevor Lawrence-Cartersville, DeShaun Watson-Gainesville, Gunner-Rabun County. You will never see a QB from the top classification in Georgia in the top 5, maybe top 10. Simply because defenses are much better in higher classifications. If you ever see a 6A QB in Georgia start breaking passing records, or any record, you can rest assured he is a true stud and will have offers from every college in the country, guaranteed. He may be as good as you say, but unproven at the college level. If he came to UGA he wouldn't want to sit, which he would do, at least next year.and would probably end up in the portal. As I said, I'll take a proven winner thats already on the roster..
