Georgia’s domination of Alabama in the SEC Championship Game resulted in a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff. But the Tide also made the playoff and didn’t drop in the ranking. What does that say about the relevance (and the future) of the conference championship game? Check out my latest Junkyard Blawg.

@BillKing No. It just means that even after losing the title game, Alabama was still one of the 10 best teams in the country. Evidence? #11 Notre Dame went 1-2 against ranked teams, with that ranked team being 9-3 USC (best victory: 9-3 Michigan). #12 BYU? Sure. #13 Texas? 10-3 beats 9-3. #14 Vanderbilt? Lost to Bama by 16.

How moronic is it....that we have to beat Ole Miss and Alabama twice in the same season....because of a "12 team playoff". Lol

Alabama could conceivably wind up playing the Dawgs for the Natty. Again! Lol

Yall think they're using AI Technology to set this whole thing up? Wow. We've come a long ways from the media picking a Champ, huh?. Lmao

Go get em Big Red. Don't celebrate too long. Makes you soft. Helluva game.

@BigDawg61…Yes, it is moronic for sure.

To me, the whole playoff process is too riddled with politics & trying to be fair to all conferences (including the Group of 5). That's what is causing this problem. We ALL know that the Top (12) BEST teams in the country are most likely not going to be from the Group of 5. So why are they even in the playoff? Why do they have to be included when JMU and Tulane should not be in it?

The whole thing with "automatic bids" and definitive spots for conferences is what is creating so much controversy. You should have to earn your way in.

Take out JMU and Tulane (who got shellacked by Ole Miss earlier this season 45-10) and add in Notre Dame and Miami.

Problem solved and you get the (12) BEST teams in the playoff. If you are serious about putting in lesser teams like from the Group of 5 then you're going to have to expand the playoff to at least 24 teams…cause yeah, maybe they are in the bottom realistically of the Top 24. But they certainly are not part of the (12) BEST teams in the country.

Isn't that what we are trying to do - get the BEST 12 teams in the playoff?

The two teams that beat Notre Dame, are playing for the opportunity to get beat up by OSU....then, UGA if they squeak by that one. Lol....they "won" nothing...imo.

Same goes for Tulane & JMU. Mercy and padding are the only things standing between these 2 teams and physical devastation. The CFPC did them no favors by subjecting them to that much pain.

But, hey.…it's gonna be entertaining. Like watching the first hundred laps or so, of the Daytona 500. Lol

    Go Dawgs!

You wouldn't lineup a "Group of 5" team across from the worst NFL Team in the league....due to safety concerns among other reasons.

Why on earth are they allowing the likes of JMU and li'l ole Tulane to play the Best of the Best in what is essentially, an NFL Feeder League....with NFL Bodies and NFL Talent.

Imo....CFB has changed significantly, since Saban returned from the NFL. The SEC & BIG10 have become much more professional....and, in turn....much more physical.

Not a chance one of those teams can compete...much less, run the new 12-team gauntlet.…littered with SEC & BIG10...11 or 12 game winners.

    What's it gonna take? Lol

Read Notre Dame has withdrawn from consideration for a bowl game after not being selected for the CFP. Wow, what? The Catholics pulled out?

I just heard about it, myself.

If...I was on that team....that would be my first reaction, too. I

But, I wouldn't act on it....Cause, it's a clear-cut example of "Poor Sportsmanship". Which makes me wonder if the whole team, including staff...is behind this decision.

Or, is it a managerial tantrum by the University's hierarchy? Either way....it's not a good look for any of em.

But…It ain't us...Lol. I don't think Kirby blinked until AFTER the FSU Game, '23. Though, he had a legitimate gripe, at the time. Imo.
