Gunner Stockton: How âUnbelievable toughnessâ has translated to clutch play
Gunner Stockton: How âUnbelievable toughnessâ has translated to clutch play
Kirby Smart canât say enough about his first-year starting quarterback, and itâs easy to understand why when one considers Stocktonâs grit and clutch play this season.

The one key word I see in every article about Gunner says it all..Winner.
The moment GS won this team over was that run to the line vs. Texas in the SECCG last year. He put his body on the line, nearly got decapitated, got right back up like it was nothing, and continued to lead his team. I guarantee you every player on the field, including the Texas players, respected that. That showed just how tough this North Georgia farm kid is.
Go Dawgs!
@MikeGriffith @JeffSentell
Quick unrelated question, guys…WHY IN THE WORLD would Dawgnation have a Carson “the moneygrubber” Beck UGA replica football Jersey advertised on its front page??? Who ever is running your advertisement department should be arrested and castratedfor laziness and ineptitude..
A number 14 UGa Jersey from that fanatics dot com advertising link please…give me tough team leader over moping me first #15 jersey please. It’s all in the details guys..tighten up.
So many naysayers about Gunner and Bobo early on. Look at em now. In my 65 years of following th Dawgs, this is one of my favorite teams. No superstars, just a group of young men all pulling in same direction. Credit to Coach Smart for getting the buy in during these difficult days of NIL money.
I'm not allowing myself to think about this too much at this point, and it's unlikely Miami gets past OSU, but what a game that would be with Beck vs Gunner.
On another note, I'm not sure how many of y'all watched the SEC Network Ole Miss post game interview with Chambliss and TJ Dottery. When asked about the game coming up, Dottery in so many words said that during the CFP reveal, they "were hoping Georgia would be on their side of the bracket." I get they want another crack at the Dawgs, but I hope they make Dottery eat those words. Ha, Chambliss was a little more measured and at one point said they were "happy to be there" when referencing the Sugar Bowl…probably a true measure of how Ole Miss feels if you ask me.
they have to fix the editing mistakes first…
Yea, I think the guy that drives an F150 fits us better than the guy that drives a Lamborghini (until it got stolen)!
GO DAWGS!
UGA fans are hilarious.
Lots of UGA QBs have split over the years. I understand the animus against Justin Fields, even though the expectation that he was going to sit for 3 years behind Jake Fromm and only have 1 year to show his wares to the NFL was always ridiculous. (Older UGA fans will recall that doing so didn't turn out well for DJ Shockley, who was hampered by injuries and a mediocre supporting cast the 1 year that he got to play and only got an obligatory 7th round draft pick and 4 years on the bench at the rookie minimum from the Atlanta Falcons as reward for his UGA loyalty. Shockley has since acknowledged that he would have been better off protecting his NFL prospects by transferring like Fields did.) But Jacob Eason, JT Daniels, the aforementioned Vandagriff and D'Wan Mathis all split with UGA fans wishing them nothing but the best. The vitriol over Beck is just evidence that Beck's detractors simply never liked him and were never going to regardless. Fascinating how the very people who are raving over Zachariah Branch being a real difference maker for the UGA offense spent the prior 2 years blaming Beck for failing to be productive with UGA's immense talent. Folks even blamed UGA's drops in 2024 on Beck's poor accuracy and timing. Fascinating how drops weren't an issue with Beck in 2023 - when Bowers and McConkey were healthy that is - and weren't in Miami this year with Beck being #2 in the country in completion percentage.
That's right. This is Beck's third season in a row winning 11+ starts. Third throwing for 3000+ yards. Third throwing for 24+ TDs. And this is despite all 3 seasons playing for clearly flawed teams on offense. Also his second year at over 72% completions. The third? A starting WR trio of Arian Smith (6 catches for 47 yards with the Jets), Dom Lovett (0 catches with the Lions) and Dillon Bell (27 catches for 280 yards) and a 102 ranked rushing offense knocked it down to 65% which was still better than Stetson Bennett's 2021 completion % with all those future NFL players around him on offense.
In 3 years, Carson Beck will be the only QB who ever started a game at UGA still on an NFL roster. If his elbow checks out at the combine, he will be so as a high draft pick and a starter. This will be further proof that the disappointing way that his tenure went - and ended - at UGA weren't his fault.
@Eric_C How sure are you that Miami won't get past Ohio State? In the two games that Ohio State has played against big time teams (which we can stop pretending that Miami isn't at this point) they scored 14 and 10 points. While they beat Michigan and Illinois by double digits, both were "steady as she goes" solid performances against 3 and 4 loss teams as opposed to Indiana 63 Illinois 10 or even USC being up 24-7 over Michigan in the 4th quarter. (Note: Illinois also somehow lost by 17 to 4-8 Wisconsin, putting their 18 point loss to Ohio State in context).
There are two ways to look at this. 1. Ohio State will get Jeremiah Williams and Carnell Tate 100% healthy and get back to being explosive again on offense like they haven't been since … last year. Or … 2. Even last year Ohio State wasn't as explosive as they were in 2023, 2022 and 2021 but won a title largely due to a much improved defense. (Such as Ohio State needing a late 4th quarter 83 fumble return for a TD to survive getting upset by Texas.) And Ohio State lost 3 future NFL starters (WR Ogbuka, RB Henderson, RB Judkins) and a 4000 yard 35 TD passer off last year's team.
So Miami beating Ohio State wouldn't be a total shock. In Notre Dame and Texas A&M, Miami has beaten two teams that better than anyone that Ohio State has beaten this year. (As Miami played 9-4 South Florida and the Gators out of conference plus 8-4 Pitt, 8-4 SMU, 8-4 Louisville and 8-5 NC State in conference, their schedule actually wasn't bad by "they are not an SEC team" standards. The committee did the right thing in choosing them over ND).
No what’s really hilarious is how you think your Former GT fan crap talk has anything to do with stopping UGA at winning. By Your own admission you left the GT fanbase because they **** to much so you come here and try to inject your butt hurt misery on a Happy Dawgs fanbase. So don’t go away mad, just you know, go away.
Yeah the same Committee that chose Bama. So there’s that. You are a determined Troll I’ll give you that. GT has looked better ( as much as I hate to say it) in the last two seasons than they have in years. Why don’t you swallow your disloyal pride and go back to them ? All you do Here is take not so subtle swipes at our Dawgs. Quoting YOU from another thread on DN: “ I could Never find myself rooting for Georgia”. That’s maybe not word for word but 100% the intent. Cant you let Dawgs fans enjoy their team winning ? I guess the answer is No because the team you were Disloyal to is not in the playoffs. Why don’t you do us a very Merry Christmas and weigh anchor and sail away .
Gunner Stockton is the epitome of a football player. No he might not have all the attributes of the prototypical QB. But he does have great attributes of his own. One of the many positives is he’s tough as real rawhide leather !! His teammates Love him and are willing to give their all in support of him.
Even the Defense feeds off of his play !! How do I know that ? Because they’ve Said so several, several times !! Gunner is a mirror image of this Whole team and they are the same of him. Not glitzy, not flashy, just hard nosed blue collar guys that Get The Job Done !!
They got snubbed on allot of the awards. But when they hold up that National Title Trophy AGAIN, the Award winners will take note. And the media will have to choke it down Again !! Go Dawgs !!
@randomsportsfan As much as I find your snipping and slights of the Dawgs and Dawgs fans insulting. Merry Christmas to you !!
The young man has HEART!!! Miles and miles of HEART!!
Nuff said!!
Go Dawgs!
