RIP Bobby Cox
Bobby Cox has gone to GOD RIP. His tenure was the golden years of Atlanta Braves baseball. My father knew him slightly as they had met in the grocery store and would talk whenever they were at the time. My Dad said they never talked about baseball though just family and other things. 😎
Bobby Cox did what many attempt but few accomplish. Take a professional sports franchise that is a laughingstock and turn it into a perennial winner.
That is what Bobby Cox did with the Braves. Two distinct franchises really. Pre 1991 and post 1991. And it all boiled down to Ted Turner, who also recently passed, hiring Bobby back to be the GM after the 1985 season. Ted famously said after he fired Bobby in 1981 as manager he wanted the next guy to be just like Bobby Cox.
Cox overhauled the entire thing in 1986 from the lowest Farm team on up. Took a few years for it to show up. But it did in 1991 and the team has been a winner ever since.
Rest in peace Coach Cox. 🙏🏼
Braves win their 27th over those hated Dodgers 7-2! A fitting homage to the Skipper! He will be sorely missed….

Win. Especially considering this is the longest hardest West Coast run of the year.
Cubs might be tough coming back home but after that I think the schedule opens up for the Braves. Which means they can go back to winning series after series rolling along. This team might have some legs.
