Georgia vs. LSU: Updates and analysis

Greetings from Stegeman Coliseum, where less than 48 hours after its win at Alabama, the Georgia Bulldogs return to the court. The short turnaround is the bad news for them. The good news is the opponent: LSU is 9-18 overall and 1-14 in the SEC. Yes, the Tigers stink on ice this year.
That said, Georgia still won't have Yante Maten, and given the short turnaround and the chance for overconfidence, there's reason to still tune in and see if the Bulldogs can take care of business.
As always, I'll have updates here.

Yante Maten is here, serving as a rebounder for teammates during pregame shooting drills. For what it's worth he's not on crutches, as he was Tuesday when I saw him painfully trying to go up a flight of stairs. No updated word on a target for his return. Obviously they'd love to somehow get him back for the Arkansas game a week from today. But I haven't heard anything to indicate that has a chance. The SEC tournament is uncertain too.
Head referee tonight is Tony Greene, who's usually pretty good, so maybe we get a nice, clean game here.
Starting lineup is in: Turtle Jackson remains in it. So does E'Torrion Wilridge, now starting a fourth straight game. Full lineup:
G-Turtle Jackson
G-JJ Frazier
SF-Juwan Parker
PF-E'Torrion Wilridge
C-Derek Ogbeide.
At least two members of Georgia's 2011 NCAA tournament team - Jeremy Price and Connor Nolte - in attendance for this one.
Student section not exactly in full force for this one. Rest of the arena about 60-70 percent full.
Not often you can write the sentence: J.J. Frazier scores on the backdoor layup.
Turtle Jackson isn't a consistent 3-point shooter, but frankly he needs to be if he's going to play a lot of minutes and Georgia's going to succeed. He doesn't need to force it, but if he's open he needs to shoot. And that's what he did just now - after initially hesitating, perhaps reluctant after missing an earlier one - but he made this one to give Georgia a 10-9 lead.
Injury news: Jordan Harris is out indefinitely with a bone chip. No further news.
Well, this went from close to a 10-point game real quick:
A three-point play by Mike Edwards, fouled trying one of those turnaround bank shots that looks like a bad idea until it goes in. Then Derek Ogbeide was fouled making a much prettier turnaround hook. And finally E'Torrion Wilridge hit a 3 from the top of the key.
Those kinds of contributions are what you need when your best player is out.
Tyree Crump just needs to play. Two straight 3s, the second on the break from about 24 feet, and Georgia now leads 33-16.
Georgia went into a bit of a rut, allowing LSU to draw back within single digits, so JJ Frazier goes back in and hits a shot to extend it to 11 again. But the Tigers still aren't going away, and are hitting shots. Bulldogs will have to work a bit more to put this away.
I've now counted three airballed 3s by Georgia this half. One apiece by Wilridge, Crump and Jackson.
Kenny Paul Geno just went in with instructions to foul - Georgia had a bunch to give and LSU had the ball as the half was ending. He picked up two quick ones, then was called for a shooting foul, which wasn't part of the plan.
Halftime: Georgia leads 44-37. Closer than it looked like it would be at one point.
LSU got this closer with some hot shooting, while Georgia cooled off considerably.
Frazier has 11 to lead Georgia, followed by Ogbeide (9), Parker (6), Crump (6) and Edwards 9also 6).
And just like that it's a 4-point game.
Well 7-point after Turtle Jackson answers with a 3. Still, LSU getting hot offensively and not making it easy .
Actually Jackson just hit another 3. So just like that it's a 10-point game.
