Synopsis:
TJ questions development at TE position (which is fair to question) and we couldn’t overcome that despite relationships.
Tank- “we’re not real”...aka I’m pissed about being slow played and he’s looking forward to playing us yearly (good luck). Dell got his top 2 though so, he’s validated.
As for other “misses”:
247 Rusty on Sewell- “UGA led for a long time.” Many have said he was never coming here. It was just wrong info. Well...
Burch- we didn’t finish in the top 3, he says. Yet he visited UGA more than any other school in 2019 calendar year and told staff he was coming. It is what it is. There might be some extra sauce on those blocks from our OL when it comes to him.
I’d bet Zykevious Walker’s interview would sound something similar to Tank although he had his chance to get in this spring and chose to release a top 5 instead and was subsequently slow played.
We could go down a list of “misses” this cycle. There’s one I have to own and that’s Elias Ricks. There just wasn’t enough there and I should’ve held that; false start on my part but the excitement and possibility got to me. Won’t happen going forward.
This is my class recap post of the cycle. The rest of the work is done and I’ve posted on who finished the class by signing. One major prospect left in Jackson (we pushed for Henderson but are going to miss), gotta get him on campus but he really only has beat out Tymon Mitchell for two deep. Tymon has a year head start but can’t move like Jackson. Favorable depth chart there. We’ll see what happens.
Admittedly I forgot about Wyatt but I don’t think it matters. We haven’t had a Carter type in a long time; his combo of power and speed has been missing. I think we’ll get 2017 Tyler Clark like performance consistently out of Carter and I always caution driving slow on freshman. Just think he’s got potential we haven’t seen at 3T consistently here. Carter does have a questionable motor at times but that’s where tough coaching will help him and unlock even more potential.
The 4 man front seems right that you forecast there, to start, playing against the run.
Not true, Bud Elliot made a pic for Ringo probably 2-3 days ago. The Ringo CB haven’t been flooding in like they have for Evans and Washington, but it’s just that a lot of people put them in for Ringo over the summer. So right now Washington has 18 picks in on 247 compared to Ringo who has 14, with about 3 of them coming post signing day before the allstar game.
Also I think the lack of movement on Ringo and all of the CBs for Manning to Oregon are very telling. The Dawgs are getting their man. After the Allstar games it will be the number 1 class with 2 more spots to fill.

I for one like hearing about early smoke like Ricks. You were open from the start that it was far from a sure thing. It makes it more interesting to me to hear those kinds of things. I subscribe to another site and they don’t share stuff until in is virtually a done deal and is common knowledge by then. So even though you aren’t 100% I like hearing what you have heard or feel. To me it does no good to watch some expert drop a crystal ball an hour before a kid announces. So, in my opinion, keep relaying those whispers even if they are a long shot

I've been watching more film on Georgia's defense the past couple of days and what strikes me is how many looks Kirby and Lanning are using.
Some players don't move around very much.....
Jordan Davis stays in the 0-3 tech area.
Devonte Wyatt seems to stay in that 3-5 tech area.
But Travon Walker literally plays everywhere from 0-5 tech. He also plays more 4i tech than I thought Georgia played.
Ojulari doesn't seem to move around very much.....he stays in that 5-7 tech range.
But it's incredible how many places that a Nolan Smith or Jermaine Johnson line up. They literally line up everywhere across the line.
I've come to the conclusion that it's very difficult for most of us layman to figure out where certain players will play in a Georgia defense......they are showing so many exotic looks.
And it's obvious that Kirby/Lanning are favoring speed over size in many instances.
From what I can tell........it seems Rice and Nakobe Dean will be fairly standard fixtures in the middle at Mike and Will. Tindall will probably be in this mix.
When they are in there Davis and Rochester will be at the 0-1 techs.
Wyatt and Jalen Carter will usually be in a 3 tech.
Probably count on Ojulari/Herring consistently being in a 5-7 tech.
But then it gets crazy.......Travon will play every position on the DL and no way to predict where it will be.
Nolan, JJ, Adam Anderson, Quay Walker and even someone like Tyrique Stevenson will be all over the place.
We often talk on here how good our defense could be.......and I'm not suggesting that Georgia's front 7 will be better next year than the recent front sevens of Clemson and Bama........
But I can't think of a team in recent history that can claim this much talent in the front 7........

I honestly don't know how a coach finds the right match ups with all this talent.
But from that group.......Jordan Davis, Travon Walker, Azeez Ojulari, Nolan Smith and Nakobe Dean are simply elite talents and I believe will occupy most defensive stats.
And it's my prediction that Travon Walker will be the most disruptive defensive player in the SEC next season.
Tex-share your thoughts on lack of pass rush from talent most of us would consider elite. I think it’s being handcuffed by scheme (gap assignment).
At what point does hitting the QB outweigh gap assignment, especially when a QB is in a rhythm?
Speaking of coaching. I saw Tray Scott is being talked about in regards to Sam Pittman hiring a DL coach. If that happens, do we go after Tosh Lupoi? I only ask because that effects 2020 recruiting (Jackson) and the future of recruiting in the defensive trenches. I know we’re aiming to get to where Clemson is when it comes to recruiting DL

Knowing Kirby, wouldn’t be surprised if we go Manning, Washington, Ringo, Evans, Jackson to finish our class. I’d understand if we didn’t get an ILB even if Rice does leave. We’re simply just too stacked there and will refill in ‘21

Too soon to know, I haven’t heard anything either way. Scott leaving or Tosh coming. If there was a vacancy, I’d imagine he’s be on a short list with his recruiting abilities.
