National Wine Day

Yeah, I know it's Presidents Day but an argument might be made that a glass (or two) of good wine can do a lot for us. Maybe not as much as those we honor today, but I'm just sayin'. What are some of your favorite wines? When do you like to drink them?
It's also National Crab Stuffed Flounder Day - a nice match with robust red wine with a great nose...just kidding. I know from nothign about wines.

I like dry white wines. I'll open up a pinot grigio i got in the fridge if I get my ethics paper done
I've been a collector for a number of years and have about 500-600 bottles in my cellar. At first I leaned heavily towards California Cabs in the $100-325 range (from Maybach, Pride, O' Shaughnessy, Schrader, Hundred Acre etc.), then moved to the Rhone Warriors around Paso. My favorite Chardonnay comes from Aubert. Their 2013 CIX vineyard is a 100 pt. win in my book.
Over the last two years I've switched to Old World wines, particularly French, Italian and Spanish. I love the Rhone region, both red and whites. I've also started collecting Champagne.
@benjaminwgregg, if you like dry white wine and you're drinking Pinot Grigio, look for opportunities to try:
Others may have different suggestions, but that's a geographically and varietally diverse range of whites that should be easy to find, with plenty of decent options under $20.
*Not sure you needed any of that input- just assumed from your comment you're a student and therefore still in the early stages of your wine journey.
@Casanova_Flatulence, when we win the natty I'm heading to your house.
Good call on the South African Chenin Blanc! I just had a really good one over the weekend that was very reasonably priced.
I'd also recommend dry German Rieslings. They may not be dry necessarily, but for full bodied whites I recommend Condrieu and CdP Blancs.
Totally agree on dry riesling. Just hesitated to include that since most of the product out there is going to be sweet. Figured my list was safe.
I usually make my own. But when I do entertain guest, I go to my cellar and bring out the finer stuff..
I believe Total Wine carries some dry Rieslings, but you're right... you won't find them in your average Package Store.
Awesome! @ghostofuga1 -- Thanks for the Mad Dog reminder!
That's quite the lineup. I usually pass those out to the homeless.
I am not a big wine drinker my any means, however I have some very fine wines over the years. Hardly ever keep any around the house just because we don't really have guest over often and when we do, easier to go pick up a few bottles for the evening.
With that said, I do have one bottle that I have cherished for 18 years. Doubt it'll ever be opened.....
Never done much with Champagnes but I do love my Cabs and Sauvignon Blanc's during the warmer season. Did a trip out to Willamette Valley a couple of years ago and learned to really appreciate Pinot Noir's. Anyway Diamond Creek Cab's are wonderful and I personally like the Mercury Head Cab. as well.
My best friend and fellow UGA grad lives in Portland, so I've done a number of trips to Pinot territory out there. Great wine and beautiful country. I wouldn't mind retiring out there!
The idea of handing out bad wine to homeless people is obviously wrong and very funny.
Ty very much for this list I will keep it in mind next time I'm at the store
