idk or idc how Kirby does it, but I think we sign 27-30 in this class. No logic to prove my theory other than Kirby will find a way.
16 seniors
2 extra scholarships
Swift/DRob/Thomas/Wilson/Kindley/Cleveland/Stokes
Bush/Smith/Poole/Speed/OL/DL/LB
there are guaranteed 18 scholarships needed to be replaced. 7 highly likely early NFLers. Low ball estimate on transfers after the season is 2-3.
Not for one. I've been screaming it for weeks. Even called 2022 All SEC team. Of course, I'm the only one that remember if I was right. 😉
I like your enthusiasm. I really do. But there is no way on earth we sign 27-30 in this class. Not going to happen.
I don't even know if I want you to be right. 30 out of 85 freshman - not good.
I agree with you, but I think 60-75% of your roster being underclassmen is the new norm for the super teams Bama/OSU/UGA/Clemson in the age of the transfer portal. Kids will leave after year 2 of not playing and they’ll be replaced by a freshman. 10-15% will make it all the way to senior year. 15-25% will be juniors.
30/85= 35.29% 25/85= 29.41%
2019 roster:
Freshman: 29 (29/83= 34.94%)
Sophomores: 20 (29/83= 24.10%)
Juniors: 18 (18/83= 21.69%)
Seniors: 16 (16/83= 19.28%)
You may be right:
If the NCAA tightens up on allowing immediate playing time on transfers - the transfers won't be as bad.
If they continue allowing immediate playing time you are probably going to be correct and transfers will continue to increase.
Think about this
of the 18 juniors & 20 sophomores 7-11 of the 38 will go pro. so that'll leave 27-31 upperclassmen in 2020. which means 54-58 will be freshman-sophomores in 2020 before you factor in the transfer portal. Currently at a 49/34 under/upper ratio in 2019.
while @SoFL_Dawg will always be the go to guy, ig i can drop what i heard from a guy i’ve been talking to who is associated w a donor
-feel very confident with Van Pran-Granger, Ringo, and Washington
-good confidence (somewhat lower) with Evans (most likely late August or early September), Burch, and Sewell
-Milton and Ricks are very close. Ricks even commented something pro-Georgia on Milton’s live (as posted by another user). Both guys will be in Athens vs ND. Ricks is not afraid of the depth chart at all.
others imitate, but there is no substitute for YKW
You are just flinging 💩 against the wall.
I'm not trying to defend @Denmen185 because I don't agree with his take on who we will sign - but almost all of us are throwing c.r.a.p against the wall to see if it sticks.
But as long as we agree with the majority - we aren't called out for it
A little misleading on current roster as there are 28 freshmen of which 8 are RSF so only 20 true freshmen. Also there are 21 Soph which includes 8 RSSo so 21 (21-8+8) 2nd year players, Juniors total 18 with 3 RSJr giving 23 (18-3+8) 3rd year players. That leaves 16 seniors of which 4 are RSSr giving 15 4th year and 4 5th year players. In summary:
1st Year players - 20
2nd Year players - 21
3rd Year players - 23
4th/5th Year players - 19
Much more even than you think. I do however think that going forward for UGA we will see a slight reduction in 4th and 5th year players as more declare early. I believe that the 2020 roster and on will have around 80 scholarship players allowing a few Jr/Sr PWO to get a one year scholly. Kirby may of course selectively add 1-2 summer transfers who will be charged against the 2021 class.
I somewhat agree on the above statement by @texdawg but also see where @EvilSamPittman is coming from. (Ive def made predictions that have been wrong and will continue to make those too)
@Denmen185 does a great job with his numbers crunching, way better than i could even think of. I do enjoy those breakdowns very much as it helps get an idea of who and why we put prospects over others
However, Its one thing to predict things based on tea leaves and info drips, but when there are no leaves and the drip has stopped on a prospect, to continue to say its going to happen (or that it wont strictly on opinion) will turn some folks off, and have them question it. (I do this but mainly not to call him out but to see if he is hearing something the rest have not yet).
Its all in good fun and convo, but when you step out on the ledge, you have to expect some folks may try and come push you.
@Denmen185 there is no situation where UGA goes into the summer 2020 with only 80 scholarship players. Kirby would never let that happen. If he was scared of that being a possibility based on the fact that he couldn’t get more than 80 and stay under the 25 per year limit, then he would have been in the media over and over about the issue. He has not, so there is nothing to worry about in that front for 2020 cycle. We will take 28-30 guys and that’ll be that. Details will come out eventually on how it’s possible, but for now it’s just an assumption by all involved.
How many do you see declaring early? We currently have 2 open with 16 exhausting eligibility after this season. To get to 30 you need 12 declaring early or entering the portal.
Edit: BTW I don't see 80 as a problem. I would rather keep the 2021 class at 24 ( my class of 25 includes Zirkel as a charge against 2021) rather than using 3-5 of those for transfers coming in summer of 2020. We have used transfers only to fill holes in our roster but I see those holes have disappeared or will have by the time the 2020 class comes in.
