Is Evans not allowed to learn from his mistakes? Some of y’all are acting like he’s now condemned to a life of coach killing and immaturity. 17 year old kids change. A lot.
It’s unfair to demand constant perfection. Give him a chance to take his punishment and better himself.
Did anyone read the article on the front page about Matt Landers? He and Kirby got into an altercation his freshman year because he did not understand hard coaching and playing special teams. He and Kirby got by it, learned from it, and he is still with the program.
Getting into an argument with a coach happens in high school, college and the pros. If it is a constant problem or the player does not learn from it, it is a problem. Kids are able to make mistakes and learn. Until the facts are known, give Evans the benefit of being able to learn a lesson.
There are 64 other P5 and 129 other FBS schools for him to do that at.
with the scholarship crunch and recent track record we have I think the smart thing to do here would be to just let this one go.
I agree with this. I don't want to mentally knee jerk with it too far. Kids make mistakes and are able to learn from them. I'm going to be interested to see how he bounces back. Is he on the sidelines being a good teammate while suspended? Does this happen again? Things like this can build character in the long run.
Then it’s good a thing you aren’t the head coach.
Sad that his career is permanently stained though. Let’s let the details come out before sentencing a teenager to his athletic death
What kind of altercation? Physical? Verbal? Honestly, without knowing all the parties involved, we don't know what the standards are to merit a suspension. Maybe the coach was on a hair trigger about having his decisions questioned and wanted to make an example of his most high profile player. Having watched the first game I could definitely see why someone would have questioned Evans' usage and I don't hold the opinion that a coach's decisions, playcalling, etc. are sacrosanct and don't deserved to be called out from time to time. Lots of people are making character assessments about Evans based on rumor when for all we know his coach could be a real life Bud Kilmer. Truth is only a few people know what really happened. Until more comes out, we should withhold judgement. As to whether we should stop recruiting...Evans is being described as a generational talent at the position...I am going to need a lot more than a squabble (?) with his head coach to pass on him.
let me get this right, the no. 1 rb in the nation's coaches decides he should only get the ball 10 times......this is high school......is Clemson's DL on the opposing team? I'd be pissed too, what other reaction do you want a 17 year old who is the NUMBER ONE back in the nation to do? If he handled it poorly, then this is a learning opportunity.....as a fanbase we need to get off this high horse that kids don't make mistakes or we shouldn't take kids who make minor mistakes....you've heard one thing about the kid's attitude and now we shouldn't take the NUMBER ONE running back in the nation.........Anyway, with all this Evans hoopla.........I'm going to go with Kirby special for next to commit, and it'll be in reaction to something external.....just spitballing here
The great news is - it doesn't matter if anyone knee jerks, makes assumptions, says we should or shouldn't sign him.
Probably isn't responsible to judge a kid, or anyone for that matter until what really happened is public knowledge.
But again, it doesn't matter if you choose to do so or not.
Not one single opinion, positive or negative, will change what Kirby is going to do with this situation.
So we can all go round and round all we want - but it won't matter.
The only thing that matters is what Kirby does. And Kirby doesn't read this thread.
Im not trying to write a kid off for 1 incident.
if it wasn’t that big of a deal, then the coach wouldn’t have taken the action that he did.
Coaches input are a major evaluation tool when recruiting players.
Kirby and staff will do the due diligence in evaluating what happened in this specific situation and see if they need to change their assessment of Evans
If he is in this class I have all the faith that this was an isolated incident from a kid that just wanted to help his team win.
if he isn’t in this class, then it wouldn’t surprise me if this incident is a big reason why
If Evans were kicked off the team, I would consider not recruiting him. Short of that, no big deal. Just needs to handle his suspension properly, even if the coach was wrong.
Just curious on how ratings work. Just 1 off day like this take his #1 RB rating away? Or is it more "end of season totals" that rankings adjust to?
Do me a favor and listen to some of the stories Nick Saban has told in the offseason about kids in his programs that have made mistakes, been given some grace and 2nd chance and have turned into not just great players but sterling human beings as well. This whole "gotcha" society and one mistake is one mistake to many is a really narrow-minded way of looking at the world.
first problem with this video is that it’s 4 years old, not from this summer.
secondly how many 2-3 stars is Saban giving second chances?
he doesn’t care about the persons life as much as he cares about the ability to replace that persons talent on the field.
He’d rather keep a 4-5 star and help him through his problems rather than kick him off the team and have to wait until the next season to replace him.
this develops a cancerous culture that I Hope UGA has no part of.
Im all for giving guys the benefit of the doubt and a second chance.
I just want it to be the same standard across the board regardless of your ability on the football field.
I have no idea how the ratings system work.
I’ll trust my eyes on this one. He’s the best RB “talent” in the 2020 class, top 10 talent overall. Milton remains the best system fit imo, and Evans is the ideal running mate based on his abilities to turn a pedestrian 5-7 yard gain into 30+. His short shuttle quickness is unrivaled @ 3.8. Contrary to how his line looked last Thursday, he’ll have a gap, or two, to choose from (should he choose us), that quickness will pay huge dividends behind a Pittman OL.
If this was a 3 star kid getting suspended for this stuff how would y’all react?
my guess is you’d be saying let him go because we can get somebody better
but since this is the #1 RB y’all are all running to his defense
