Gilbert (Flex TE, selling as more WR than TE) , Theo and DW are the three TE types the staff has narrowed focus on.
He's a special player, but he isn't the freak that Ben Watson was. I think AG would make more of an impact on the defensive side of the ball, personally.
If I am looking at the stats correctly, it looks as if Bama and UGA have completed roughly the same number of passes to the te's so far this year, will Bama having completed 11 for 118 yds, while UGA has completed 14, for 153. Bama te's have 3 td's , while UGA te's have 0.
Bama's too.
Truth.
Last I heard on Theo makes me very confident here. I saw the other takes on other sites. Iowa or PSU. Common denominator is UGA. I’ve seen top 2 Iowa and UGA, and PSU and UGA. Both Washington and Theo also were said to look at bama as well but I don’t think either is realistic as I’d expect them to pull Gilbert. Neither will play with Gilbert.
In situations such as this with Theo, when we’ve been the common denominator (top 2 based on 3 schools), we’ve won these battles. Dean, Pickens, Webb come to mind recently.
Cause for angst...were selling a forecasted message and were battling schools that are actually producing at the position. Evidence vs. faith here. Having such an early OV in respect to the competition could be troublesome. That said, no atmosphere will top the ND game, “if” Theo continues to believe the usage message.
Last silver lining, Wolf could easily be our leading WR based on how often he’s been open in middle of field this season. There have been multiple misses to him each game. The heavily scrutinized scheme could be shown as a positive here, as both targets are significant athletic upgrades in comparison to who we have in room now.
OJ Howard, Irv Smith look better than Issac Nauta...Orson Charles (resembles athletic ability of targets this year) was drafted in 2012. Gilbert was 11. We have a lack of success stories.
I do like your "common denominator " look on his recruitment and agree we are that. Michigan name is floating around as well. TOS says his relationship with Franklin is strong and been in the works for a while. We might have needed that early OV to make sure our name was on his short list heading into the stretch.
No doubt, just speaking in terms of this year.
Conversely, Iowa had 2 go in the first last year, so that could be a big pull for Theo, but this year, their te numbers are down. Penn St, on the other hand, has completed 25 to te's this year.
I think Michigan jumped out early because of proximity to home. I believe they’ve faded. Iowa has taken a few TEs already I believe, so I think PSU is second now. I do believe we lead this recruitment currently.
Not worrying about the multiple visits to the same campus?
Not really. Whenever a croot visits a school in close proximity frequently and doesn’t commit, it’s an indicator something is amiss with the croot and that school. Similar to how Gilbert has been to UGA numerous times but never committed. Convenience visit more than anything.
@SoFL_Dawg anything to the Xzavier Henderson visit?
Any Idea on if Arian Smith will take an OV?
I'm tryna get errbody.
For real, on the offensive side of the ball, which position group are we known for developing other than RB?
We simply have to evolve, and maybe we can sell that to AG...Arik, come help us evolve...
