DAYUM!!!😂😂
Mullen is a good coach and great play caller.... but there is definitely something to his personality that seems odd.
A coach at an elite program......which Florida should be.......has to be able to go into the homes of top 100- 300 recruits.......recruits that literally every top program wants. Meaning he's going against the sharpest and most successful coaches in the country.......Saban, Dabo, Kirby, Coach O, Lincoln......etc.
Although he is a good coach.......does his personality seem to be able to compete with those personalities.........doesn't seem like that to me.
I think Mullen is a legit college head coach......I just don't think Mullen is a legit elite program head coach where you have to be able to do it all.
So recruit "x" out of Lakeland, Fl has a busy day lined up.......Saban is first, followed by Dabo, then maybe James Franklin, Kirby, Coach O, Lincoln, Cristobal, Ryan Day.......this kid had a big day.......but luckily.....since it's the local school.....the kid gave FU the final visit.....unfortunately it's Mullen.......how does he stack up to those other coaches? About like an offensive coordinator with a goofy personality or a fart during a funeral.
We just need to put the Power G on that mug, and we would know what you were doing this morning.
Sour grapes are the best ones....
I agree, but I think everyone will be OK with what Bill Norton is going to provide from the edge.
Kid is a baller and a more stout end but is a player.
Agree to disagree on that but I do hope you’re right.
That's fair. I mean, he is not a world beater, but will be a good bridge player to get to the next great Edge dude that we will get in 2021...
I think Bill will/should do a great job setting the edge and playing the run in the 4i, 4 and 5 tech position much like David Marshall. A very important role in a Kirby defense.
But doubt he ever sees a 3rd and long situation.
Don’t think he’s as quick as Marshall and I wouldn’t consider Marshall quick. I don’t like the edge fit.
He’s a bull, former wrestler, I think he’d serve us, and himself better beefing up to a 0-3T. ~310-315, immovable object.
May be right
Totally agree to disagree.
We have a crap ton of guys now that are 300 lbs that can play that.
We DON'T have a ton of guys that can set the edge at 270-280 and play the outside shoulder of the tackle in run situations. Dude is legit 6'6"/285 and can set the edge on first and second down.
He has more explosiveness than a Zion Logue/Tymon Mitchell who are similar body types and I love his ankle bend setting the edge.
I do agree that he should not be on the field for 3rd and long, but as a early down run stopper, sign me up.
Who is next for DL/Edge?
Jackson at DT, but not aware of any other targets at DE. Not sure if Jay Hardy signed or not.
OL candidates keep coming out of woodwork but DL has been too quiet. I think CTS has been awesome so why are we not recruiting at championship level here. SoFl’sComments about DL not being championship level are of major concern.
Who is out there who can make impact?
Can’t remember the exact game but watch weeks 2-3 this year. Fast forward to the 4th quarter. There’s a few plays in which he offensive player broke contain and he had to turn and run. Tymon was also in. Watch the angle of pursuit, and speed of pursuit.
From those we’ve seen on the field, he’s likely the least athletic DL in the group. The responsibility on the edge is too much imo. And that was against lesser talent btw.
See, I recall the GT game when that freshman unit was in, and Norton set the edge and turned the read option back underneath and even stacked and shed got in on a couple of tackles.
I know it was Tech and late, but he showed some edge/stack ability.
Maybe translates better to inside, but I think his height and leverage will kill him in there. I knowDavis is 6'6" and 340ish, but a 6'6" 290-300 Norton will get killed inside in my opinion.
Maybe I am wrong, but I saw him as the heir to the early downs Tuff Edge/SDE role over the strong side.
Logue is next to emerge from that 19 group btw. He’s being mentioned like Azeez was last year during bowl prep.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see him against Baylor. I don’t think the are comparable athletically.
