Rice, beans and tortillas? And no mention of tamales?
No one has mentioned tamales......a Christmas tradition in Tejas.
Surely @pgjackson remembers Christmas tamales from his days in Corpus.
Correct. Tamales are a big Texas deal at Christmas. Before my parents passed, my son and I always visited right around Christmas and brought back 4-5 dozen made by a woman my mom knew to keep in the freezer. Anyone who has never had homemade tamales just doesn't know what's good. I miss them. Here (Nicaragua) we have what are call nacatamales which are basically the same thing but bigger. Size of a brick. Mostly enjoyed for breakfast on weekends. I'm sure there will be a few floating around.
Feliz Navidad to you and yours
@texdawg ...funny you should mention tamales. I'm picking up 10 dozen, along with rice, beans and tortillas in about an hour to feed the plant I work at for a holiday lunch. I'm really looking forward to eating them!
Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah to all of DawgNation!
Don't lie. We all know what your grilling:
Christmas Eve, Dolmothes and prime rib. Christmas morning, sausage balls and a breakfast casserole, not sure which casserole but which ever meat or meats we a feeling to eat. Mother in law has Christmas night covered with probably a ham and dumplings and many of other sides.
Well I am in HHI right now so I could probably catch one and fry him up
I just had to post this somewhere:
HHI?
Hilton Head Island. It’s like Galveston, but classier 😏
Gotcha.....
Been to both......HHI would prefer to not be compared to Galveston. Nothing against Galveston....but it's not HHI.
Have fun Kasey......and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Oh I know. I’m just a hick from the sticks of Martinez, Georgia so sometimes this country club island feels ill-fitting. Just teasing you a little about Galveston. I’ve been to surfside, Texas before and enjoyed how quiet it is
I'm headed to lowcountry SC tomorrow. Supposed to be today but my mom in her older age is obsessed with weather and apparently it's raining there so she called and "talked me into" coming tomorrow. My family is too boring for Hilton Head though. Merry Christmas all.
I grew up fairly close to Galveston. Trust me, unless it has improved dramatically, being "classier" than Galveston is a not a high bar.
But it does have a beautiful "tint" to the water color.
I once had a client so wealthy she had me flown to HHI in her Cessna Citation solely for the purpose of attending a Sea Pines HOA meeting on her behalf.
