Seriously, I'd drink Lagavulin 16 yo exclusively if I could justify the cost. Started trying Bourbon when I lived in Bowling Green. My daughter works for Spec's, and has been able to get me W L Weller, which I think is now Weller 12. I liked it better than the Pappy Van Winkle she was able to get for me. I'll definitely be trying some of the others that have been extolled here.
I grabbed a Whistle Pig 10 Year Rye Barrel pick today. It is exquisite. $76 so not cheap but wont break the bank either. You get the oak, cherry and not the bite typically associated with a rye. Highly recommend and I dont typically drink ryes.
I appreciate the review. I’m not a big rye fan, and have passed on the Whistle Pig numerous times. Reading your comments on it not tasting like a typical rye provides some incentive to give it a shot. Thanks
love it. I used to have one but then I finished it without replenishing. Might start another
Definitely not the normal Rye. I like both Whistle Pig 6yr and 10yr each for different reasons. The best Rye is Sazerac Rye. All of these can be found on Max online liquors if you can't get them locally. This place has always delivered to my door in a plain wrapper and never once had to get a signature which is good for those that don't have anyone home during the day.
I may have mentioned this earlier, but I've been drinking SR since it was $8.99 a bottle. Greatest bargain in Bourbon of all time. They caught on quick though. It has skyrocketed in price.
I see a man with discriminating taste. I'm a big fan of Lagavulin 16 year old and when I'm in Scotland that's all I drink.
The bite has pushed me away from rye; I may have to see if this is the exception.
I've typically steered clear of rye for the same reasons but I'm really enjoying this. It's worth a try and if you don't like it a drink is on me! Either way I'd be happy to buy a round for any Dawg fan.
I'll second Whistle Pig... it's good and I'm not a real Rye fan.
Hey y'all I don't drink a lot of bourbon so I don't really know whats good. I know I don't like maker's mark. I just bought a bottle of wild turkey 101 and I like it. Does anyone else like this bourbon? What bourbons should I try after I finish the turkey?
Whats your price range and your location ? Liquor prices vary from state to state but giving a ballpark figure and what you did't like about the MM would help.
I would recommend Buffalo Trace. It's readily available and a reasonable price. It's also smooth and flavorful.
Any suggestions on where to go in/around Atlanta for good prices on higher end bourbons?
