COVID-19 is affecting all of us and has already changed the way CFB games will be played this year. There is the real possibility we won't have a 2020-21 CFB season. Many of our own Dawgnation members have seen first-hand what COVID-19 can do to a family member or even to themselves. Because of this I believe it is appropriate to have a thread on this board dedicated to discussing COVID-19. However, previous threads have gone off the rails due to personal attacks and partisan bickering that have come from all sides. In order to have this type of thread we need to establish some ground rules that will be strictly enforced by the mods.
- This thread is mostly for hearing from those personally affected by COVID-19 and getting updates to see how members of Dawgnation are doing.
- Any discussion regarding COVID-19 and current events must be fact driven. Disagreements are fine but you need to back them up.
- No politics at all. Given the polarized environment this does not end well.
- No personal attacks.
- Don't DV people you disagree with, but respond and explain why you disagree. We want conversations.
- If someone is breaking the rules, especially anyone interjecting politics, pushing unfounded conspiracies, or insulting others use the flag option to report the comment.
I ran this by the mods before posting and they are fine with a new thread, but it is being given a very short leash. If things get out of hand, it will be closed quickly.

Glad it's back. I am not in US and it was my main source of info.. I understood why it was taken down, but was still disappointed. Hope this time it goes better.
SC cases are creeping up after the pretty bad ramp up, but nothing that would qualify as exponential yet. I am hoping more masks and common sense are helping.
The inevitable number that bothers me is the hospitalizations due to Covid. They sit around 1300, after hovering at 400 for what seems like forever (and forever ago). Again, my hope is to see a leveling and a drop over the next 2-3 weeks of all numbers.
Public schools are going to have modified schedules. Fall sports are 50/50 at best. Crazy times.
But I am thankful for a healthy family, a nice quiet home, and a hot wife...
The frustrating part is it takes weeks to notice any benefit from public health measures because of the lag between getting infected and getting test results.
I also like seeing at @Denmen185's spreadsheets and wanted to make sure there was a thread for that.
Using the 7-day rolling average, deaths were up 11.8% comparing July 2 to July 9 (559 vs 625).
I am assuming that publishing data without laying blame would be okay. If not please let me know. You are aware that I am more closely following 10 states in the South and S West and focused even more on Florida, Georgia, Texas and California as these are the states with higher population. The other 6 are Arizona, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi.

In Florida alone, cases are up 36.7% just in the last week—an increase of 65,557 cases. Even if mortality rates stay low we will likely see a large in increase in deaths here in 2-4 weeks due to the exploding case numbers. It really gets interesting if you use the MIT numbers—actual cases are likely 12X reported numbers. Considering FL has the highest number of citizens over 65 except for CA, the death numbers are quite low. Half of the deaths are from nursing homes, so protecting them is paramount to keeping rates low.
Here is a summary of the MIT study from the Boston Globe. It was a global study looking at 84 hard hit countries. Looking at all those countries they found cases were 12 times higher and deaths 50% higher than previously thought. For the US they estimated a 1% fatality rate.
Concerning news in Mississippi. Hospitals have hit capacity in some areas and have begun to turn patients away. Do you know more about this @dawgnms? I think I remember you saying you live in Mississippi
Just reading about it a few minutes ago and the answer is yes.
Dr. Thomas Dobbs who is the Governor's guy on Covid19 said the 5 largest hospitals in the state have NO ICU beds available.
"We’re sending people out of state all the time because Mississippi hospitals cannot take care of Mississippi patients.” Direct quote from Dobbs.
I live on the coast in Harrison County we are top 3 hotspots in the state, Governor just signed executive order mandating masks indoors in public places and outdoors if 10 or more gather with max up to 20 people for 7 counties including mine and neighbouring Jackson county.

Just picked some random hospitals in Mississippi such as Baptist Memorial in Oxford and the ER wait is 6 minutes and the front page is telling patients to not put off elective care that they are prepared to take any patients. Hattiesburg Merit Health 17 min ER wait time. Methodist in Germantown 1 hour 24 min, Methodist Olive Branch 9 minutes, Methodist University 11 minutes, Methodist North 45 minutes, Methodist South 1 hour 35 min, Garden Park Medical in Gulfport 9 minutes, so there is a long range but you would think if the ER is turning people away they wouldn't show this short of a wait.
Hopefully that helps. Are they trying to get more resources for ICU beds? I know that's hard to do because it's so expensive, but you can't keep sending patients to Alabama.
My son has the Under Armour underclassman all american camp next weekend on the 19th.
Very big deal......it was moved from April to July 19th.
It was supposed to be in Mansfield which is basically in the middle of DFW.
Got word last night that it has been moved 90 miles north to a facility that is part of the Choctaw Casino resort. Supposedly an awesome facility.
Just wondering if there are less restrictions on Indian land? Don't know the answer.
Just grateful camp is still a go.
