Splash shields and visors
Couldn't find where I was asked this question.......but someone asked me a few days ago if high school players were wearing splash shields......I said probably not.
I stand corrected.
Can't speak for all but my son started wearing helmets today at practice......they are wearing splash shields and eye visors. Both required.
Splash shields are made by Schutt and cost $25 per helmet. Eye visors are usually by Oakley or Nike and start around $50.
Maybe it will help protect the players.....hope so.....because I don't know how they are going to breathe.
Comments
Splash shields. Visors. Sound the same to me. What's the difference, Tex?
Do you have any pictures of both on a helmet at the same time? I’m imagining it’s similar to a full face motorcycle helmet and I can’t imagine playing in that
Visors cover the eyes. Some players have been wearing these for years. OBJ for example.
Splash shields are new and attach inside the face mask to the bottom half of the face mask. Helps prevent spit from flying
So, basically a visor extension, right?
They are 2 separate pieces. Noticed in the SMU vs Texas State this weekend that both teams had the splash shields but only SMU had the visor.
May be harder to breathe, but probably a small sacrifice to ensure football gets played this season.
Other high school football news.....so far in Texas all is going well.
1A-4A have been playing for 2 weeks. 5A-6A ( the big schools) and private schools start on 09/24.
There were approximately 375 varsity football games across Texas last Thursday and Friday.
1A -4A will be really small to mid size towns. Of all those games.....there were two forfeits.... Brownsboro and Teneha. Don't know the reason but would have to assume Covid.
Anyway.....so far so good.
True.
...I am all about making sacrifices...
Breathing isn't one of them, right? I feel like that's an important thing to do during excessive physical activity - breathe 100%...
I would think some of it is mental. And I feel like these shields can't limit air to the player.
Are they just optics? Lots of things in place that are probably just optics.
But, like @Kasey said, if optics allows games to be played, then so be it...
Haha fair.
I can’t speak as I haven’t worn one. I’m sure it’s uncomfortable, but don’t we want these kids to toughen up a little?
I honestly don't know how they will get enough oxygen. May need to at least get rid of visor.
We'll see how today goes.
It's basically just like the pic I posted. I can certainly see how it will help from spreading spit.
How is football going so far in so Carolina?
🤣 I'm with you. I like breathing. That said, I don't see where breathing would be a big problem. Plenty of space for air flow. Can definitely see where it would be a problem in the heat though.
